Sold my first website!

I've come quite far in my short 10 months of my internet business career. I launched my first eCommerce website back in June of 2014 that dropshipped phonecases (which I just sold it on Flippa.)

It was a great way to start my internet career and gain valuable knowledge. Although the website online did $77 in sales over 6 months + the profit of the sale of the website, this project only earned me money over this period of time.

The website was also self managing. Most of the traffic was passive from Pinterest and all of my sales were from Pinterest traffic.

It was an awesome learning experience and now my next step is to reproduce that method even better and more effectively to generate even more income.

What was your first successful internet business venture?

Edit: Sale actually fell through, it was a young kid who bought it and got cold feet because he had no idea how to host or transfer a website...go figure. But hey still a great experience and I'm sure the website will sell again no problem!

Great job, do you mind me asking how much you sold your website for?

My first venture was simply writing articles for people online and that has spread to many other avenues now

Sale price was $120. Not very large but I am satisfied with it because at the end of the day it only added to my assets!

I recently sold my first website this year on Flippa. The sale encouraged me to list a second site. Success begets success.

Where did you find the drop shipper for the phone cases? And was there any profit margin? The dropshippers I find don't seem to leave me enough margin to make reselling physical products work the effort. I appreciate your feedback.

I just spent some time looking around online and happened to come across them. My margins were OK. Most cases cost about $2 - $4 wholesale and I marked them up between $7 - $12

my first successful, or i guess I should say profitable project, was a website that showed different ways to make money online, was using referral links in my guides, and had adsense too.. The problem was with all those platforms that let you earn money, many turn scam after a few months or years, which then made my site appear scammy.. So I moved briskly on from that area into bigger and better things..

Well I actually never thought about selling the website when I first created it but since it was a success and I know I can replicate that success, I figured I'd sell my little side hobby and replicate my methods on something more profitable that I'm more passionate about!

Congrats! It is the success that we have, no matter how small, that motivate us to strive for our goals. I set grand goals for myself for the year, but I break them down into lots of smaller daily, weekly and sometime hourly goals. And I celebrate every victory.

I did have a means of list building but didn't put a lot of work into it although I should have. So it was in place but was never optimized to collect a large amount of emails.

I also made the same mistake when I sold my soap blog when I first started.

I was just learning the ropes and did not know the importance of having one.

You at least had implemented something, which is more than what most novices have at first.

Pinterest is surprisingly powerful yet seemingly undervalued. Their ad service is outstanding.

    That's awesome!

I got into making YouTube videos as a teenager and started earning money a year after.

From there I realised what AdSense was and wanted to manipulate it. I made a Blogger page and placed links in some places that drove great traffic and earnings for about a week.

Then I was later banned by Blogger for having blogs of no value. (Lessons learned!)

I made more than £120 over 4 days with about 5 minutes work, it was crazy. The funny thing is I had absolutely no idea what I was doing back then lol.

    Question for OP:
How easy was it to sell your particular website on flippa?

That's great! I'm an avid YouTuber as well and I've actually made the most using YouTube so far while earning money online. (About $1,100 total)

It was quite easy. Long story short, the buyer was a young kid just starting out and got cold feet so I actually still have the website, go figure. This is the second time where something happened that I didn't complete the sale!

Maybe it's destiny for me to keep it? haha!

        That's a shame about the sale :/
Selling the sites at that stage would be a great way for me to start earning something solid.

I was hoping it all went smoothly as I'm pretty good at setting up sites and doing the keyword research, on-page SEO etc, relatively quickly. However, I haven't grasped the marketing and scaling aspect yet.

Perhaps you should keep your site and try making it bigger somehow?

Congratulations, it just goes to show that anything is possible! And hey, you got some experience along the way, which might sometimes be as valuable as money.

With the right experience and knowledge you might viewed as an expert or "know-it-all-person", and that's a profitable concept to earn some money off as well, trading your knowledge for the customers time and money. If it's valuable information that'll help your customer, than it's a win-win!

Sorry, I tend to get into a rant or two from time to time.

Best of luck in your future endeavors!

    Congratulations man!

I was also happy when i sold my first site in Flippa, the feeling of fullfilment , i bought the tutorial here in Warrior a year back for $9. As of now i was able to sold 50+ sites, not with the same method but i learned from that $9 ebook that i bought here. I owe WarriorForum a lot for introducing me 1 of the endless money making opportunities, still an amateur trying to explore other ways. Once again congratulations to you and don't be frustrated, i was and sometimes still
