do you use a presell page when marketing your own product?

Is a pre sell page required when marketing your own product or do you link directly to it?

I think this is a very interesting question. However, I think one needs to properly define pre-sell first.

And it also matters how the person found your sales page.

Were they directed to the sales page through a link in something like a free report or free video? If this is the case, the freebie would be doing some of the pre-selling in some way.

Were they taken straight to a salespage without getting something free first (cold traffic)? This is most likely the hardest to convert, depending on the price of the product and overall offer.

Is it a new offer you are making to a previous customer?

Your original product will hopefully have already pre-sold them for any other offers you will make to them as far as your credibility.

Is it a lead who has been on your list for months and months and has not bought anything? They may be a freebie seeker and not interested in buying anything from you ever.

I don't think I ever have been online and just purchased something if I was the cold traffic which arrived at the salesletter without doing some type of checking or receiving some type of pre-sell.

Even when I buy from a large online store like amazon, barnes and noble, etc...I was pre-sold because I learned to trust them as large retailers. So now if I purchase from them, I don't need to be pre-sold.

However, if I bought a product from someone such as a well known internet marketer, I can't remember a time I ever just happened to...

    A) land on a sales page
    B) Read it through and purchased

The process was more likely something like...

    A) read beginning of the salesletter
    b) skim through the rest of the salesletter focusing on benefits to me
    c) check price
    d) Re-read the salesletter more carefully
    e) do some research about the person selling the product
    f) perhaps sign up for something free they were offering to get a feel for their work
    g) Re-read the salesletter again
    h) click the order link to see how the order page looks (if it's reputable or not)
    i) go over the freebie again
    j) If I really want the benefits the item promises, I purchase.

if I am not sort of desperate for the benefits promised the process continues...

    k) Possibly think about it for an hour to a few days
    l) Maybe get sent a followup email or 2 from the persons autoresponders
    k) then perhaps I purchase

So I would say you always need to be pre-selling, even your own products.

Constantly trying to overcome the objections in the prospects mind
    covering proof, credibility, price, etc.
