More People Should Blog with WF

I never noticed this until now, but apparently the WarriorForum only has 3,000+ active blogs? How can this be? I understand that in order to even use your blog you have to be a war room member, but in my mind isn't it worth it? Everyone knows that, well some do , WarriorForum blog posts rank fairly well in the search engines. One post here, another post there, and sooner or later you'll have multiple posts, all ranking, all driving traffic, it should be that simple. But because not many people are blogging, and only 15,000+ entries has been made, there has to be another reason? So why aren't you blogging with WF?

Some of us have very little use for search-engine traffic, compared with any other kind, Nicolas.

For all these reasons, among others.

In the long run, I prefer to own and control, myself, the sites I blog on. Don't you?

I do feel like the blog seems like a great source of additional traffic, but I don't feel like it is worth it since not everybody is going to stay in the make money online niche. If you were to blog, owning it would be best for sure, so I agree with Alexa here. There are also many other sources of traffic outside of the traditional SEO traffic. Organic traffic from the search engines could wash off in an instant.

I still own sites that use just Google traffic, but I don't depend on it. I have other sources. So if those sites were to completely drown out from Google, at least I won't be affected by it in any way. Do not depend on Google or any search engine, or any site for that matter because something could wash off of the Internet almost in an instant.

Are there many possible sources of traffic? Yes.

Is it better to control your own blog? Yes.

Is more better than less? Didn't you see those commercials!

Here's why those comments IMHO were contradictory and short-sighted: You should be going after every possible traffic source. Not just one. Not just your favorite. Not just what is easy for you.

If you're a War Room member you get a free blog. I'll tell you this: if you spend 5 minutes putting a blog post on the WF versus the same blog post on your new wordpress site, the WF blog is going to kick your butt with SEO.

The Internet is a vast place. It is not a zero sum game. You can have a blog on your website and the Warrior Forum. Now you're in two places instead of just one.

Don't need SEO? Great. Going to rely on your email list? Lordy.

First, how do you plan on getting traffic to your squeeze page? Those email subscribers just don't appear out of thin air.

Second, why not spend 5 minutes getting some free SEO traffic?

Third, you do realize email marketing has been losing effectiveness every year for a decade. I'm talking about whether someone even gets your email or has it filtered out, if they bother to read it, and then if they bother to take action on anything you write - all before they opt out.

Fourth - not every niche, topic, subject, website, etc. is amenable to a list you keep mailing. If someone is looking to buy a Mickey Mouse toaster you're gonna piss them off with a squeeze page instead of directing them to the right page on Amazon.

Fifth, if you're putting a blog on your website which you control, you're um, .... drum roll .... probably getting some SEO traffic. Apparently, free search traffic isn't so bad after all.

The traffic to these blogs aren't great. You get just as many views, if not more, by posting a relevant, insightful, helpful reply on a popular thread, and many of these threads come up in search results much more often than the blogs - no contest there at all really.

I made a blog post once just to do it one time, but it doesn't interest me to continue. And the traffic be damned, anyhow - I'd rather buy it.

How funny, before I saw this post I just realized I could blog! Haha, I went to put my first post, but I have so many projects I realized I don't have time and energy for this right now. But it is cool that we have the option. Right now I don't blog anywhere, mostly because I don't have a clear plan yet on how I want the blog or topics to go. But mainly because time.

For me, it's an easy answer as I don't do anything related to MMO. So even if I got tons of extra traffic blogging on the WF, it wouldn't be relevant traffic.

Regardless, even if I was an MMO marketer and wanted to create a blog, I'd rather host it myself as:
      1. Other blogging platforms (e.g., Wordpress) are far more capable, extensible and actively developed than what the WF has on offer.
      2. It would be far easier to monetize my blogging on a platform I controlled.
      3. It would be really hard to establish a brand identity as a WF blogger. Moreover, to say that blogs on the WF don't look professional is putting it mildly -- and how to you build trust and legitimacy if you don't look professional?
      4. I wouldn't be bound by any potential changes in WF rules or policies. For instance, what if the Freelancer decided that hosting a blogging platform wasn't a core business and shut them all down so they could invest more resources in their forum software?
That said, I can imagine some creative uses of a WF Blog. For instance, I could see it being useful to post abstracts or snippets from my main blog on the WF with links to the full article on my own self-hosted blog to try to get some traffic and views. But I certainly wouldn't use it as my main blogging platform.

I think it is because we don't view Warrior Forum as a blogging platform. We see it as a forum and use it that way. But I have been thinking about getting my blog count up here on WF, even if I only commit to two a week.

It is my opinion that having blog post as well as a post count shows that you are truly involved in this community.

If you are in the IM niche then the warrior forum blogging is a great way to drive more traffic but like many have said, you can use the post and it will rank very well bringing in more targeted traffic when done right.

I also think most people are to lazy or just don't have the time to post but I feel its a great to drive targeted traffic.

Not everyone is in the MMO market and then again, most people who offer advice in the MMO market shouldn't be offering advice .

Several times I've seen Warrior posts come up in Google searches but
they are forum posts. I've never seen a blog entry come up
otherwise maybe I would have given it some thought.

Thanks for the feedback guys. This was just something that I thought should've been addressed, you know, like a gem sort of thing, wether you use search engine traffic or not.
