Is There Anything that You CAN'T Outsource?

Most of us have the ultimate goal of making residual income from the beach. Of not having to ever touch the system again, and let everything run on auto-pilot, at least that is mine. Outsourcing comes to play when thinking of things like this, I'm positive that in order to make it big in Internet Marketing you will have to outsource. Whether it's making a graphical image, traffic generation, or the management of your AdSense account, surely you cannot do everything yourself. So today I starting thinking, is there anything that you CAN'T outsource? I asked this because total automation to me means that you outsourcing your entire online business is a possibility, but if you do choose that route, is that online business really yours anymore? Sure you spent the time and money to build it to what it is, but in the end, the outsourcees of your business have control...don't they? I'm just wondering what the cons are to outsourcing your entire business, because I'm sure that there is something that you cannot outsource, just can't figure out what it is. Thoughts, opinions?

    Overseeing your business
    Choosing outsourcers
Controlling your cash flow (well you could outsource that if you are nitwit)
Making business decisions (nitwit would apply there too )

In theory, I suppose one can outsource almost anything, if one can really find someone available to do it, with the right skill-set and experience.

But there are some things one wouldn't want to outsource (perhaps including all the "relationship-building stuff" that's so valuable to so many aspects of internet marketing?) through concern that if one did, one would end up with key aspects of one's business unnecessarily dependent on someone else and their continued availability?

And then there are quite a few other things which it's very inadvisable to outsource simply because reality predicates that someone who really had the right skill-set to be doing them professionally would almost certainly be doing them for themselves rather than for others?

In practice, of course it's always very much easier to outsource things one can do oneself than things one can't, and one's also typically much better placed, that way, to assess the value of the services one's buying.

I think outsourcing too early is a classic mistake among internet marketers, and one I made myself, and one that really commonly prevents people from acquiring the skills they need to manage and control their own businesses.

I had a guy juggle chain saws once and talk about my website

Note: it's for a tattoo website and I don't own the domain anymore, not trying to get traffic - just sharing for the LOLs :-)

I didn't try to rank it for any particular keywords, just did it bc I had alot of money and thought it'd be funny LOL - I think I paid like $30 for it from the guy on fiverr.

Over all thought- for what it's worth - tattoo flash is VERY hard to sell, most people (myself included) will look for FREE flash online.

Was a fun experiment, but prob could have made more with adsense on that site.

You can't really outsource your dreams and goals or what the vision is for your business. If you try to do that, you will no longer have control over the direction and future of your business because someone elses' thinking will supplant your own.

If you ever get to the point of outsourcing everything . . . you will no longer have a business . . . you will simply own an income source and the liabilities that go with it. Then, like any other investment you could make, the level and potential for income growth is out of your hands while you still maintain the responsibilities (as in liabilities) of the business.

If you're going to do that you might as well invest in real estate or the stock market so you can blindly earn whatever is thrown your way.

IMO, one should never outsource anything online except for low level or the most mundane tasks. If your business reaches a sustainability level to support hiring employees locally or contracting with reputable service providers, those would be far better options.

Unless you are a mega corporation with a massive amount of share holders, you will *have to* rely on yourself when it comes to making strategic business decisions.

Want to build a new product? Well, chances are, you'll have to design it (I'm not talking about graphic design here).

If you are in the business of building applications, it is you who creates the concept and writes the requirements. No one else can jump inside your head and see exactly what you want to produce.

If you make money with educational content, it is you who comes up with subjects on which it is going to be written. It is very likely that you'll have to write it yourself to ensure that it is as exhaustive as possible (again, no ghostwriter can read your mind).

If you are an agency that does work for clients, there is no one who will care as much about your customer as you will. You will probably end up doing quality assurance at the very least.

Doing nothing and making money will be possible once you hit a certain threshold of profitability. But before that, I guarantee you, there's going to be a massive amount of work.

For me, working online is a great thing. I love running my business: I enjoy stressing out about deadlines, planning products, reviewing suppliers' work, communicating with my clients, enforcing standards, building sales funnels, mind mapping everything on a whiteboard, etc. Part of the reason I love doing all that is because I know that this is what allows me to do what I love the most, which is to travel (thank God for AirBnB).

Additionally, I can do many of the things that my suppliers can do, while I regularly study the things that I cannot yet do (e.g. software development and visual design). This is what genuinely interests me. If you go into this business with that type of attitude, your venture will be profitable. But if you want to start a business with hopes to work as little as possible, I suggest finding something you actually like doing instead.

If you build a personal brand based on your personality and your name then you cannot change this or make someone else be you.

But you can outsource a great many things. You can outsource your sales messages, your traffic acquisition, and even your product creation.

It all depends on how you build your business. You can make things that are outsourceble not be anymore and you can make everything to be easily replaced.

You can't outsource your personal touch to documents and personal writing style. Relating to your audience is the most important thing in marketing, and that cannot be outsourced.

You may want to re-evaluate your goals and come up with something that exists outside of the realm of the delusional.

The necessary labor to "make it big" is generally going to be expensive labor (probably six figures minimum if you are doing this from the start). That's what throws a wrench in most outsourcing plans initially. One could bring an argument of starting with $5 graphic design and $2 articles and over time you "level up" to the good outsourced work, but it rarely works out that way since bad work (and whether you want to admit it to yourself or not, that cheap work you bought is indeed bad) rarely draws opportunity.

So in that sense I think there is a pretty strong argument for being very selective in what you outsource in the earlier stages of a project if your own labor can outperform the available outsourced labor by a wide quality margin -- even if the work is very time consuming on your end.

Good sex, good food, and good music... So far everyone I've hired to handle these tasks has seemingly never been able to match the quality I demand.

All kidding aside, I have remained determined to do it all myself, although after years of study, it might be time to spread some of the tasks out to those who could likely do a better job than myself.

Most of my arguments have already been voiced, so I'll just add this...

If you outsource every aspect of making the money, you'll soon find out that you have also outsourced the spending of that money as well.

Ponder that until those funny mushrooms wear off...

You cant outsource producing quality content that solves a want, need or desire where you want to be fully responsible for your end product/customer satisfaction.

I've done a lot of outsourcing throughout my time online and I think it's a smart thing to do. You only have so much time in the day and delegating tasks for others today is a very smart thing to do and you also put yourself in a position to grow and scale even further if you assign things to people who may be even "better" than you at a particular skill.

BUT, something I have never outsourced and probably wouldn't ever would be the relationships that I build with my customers on a daily basis. Your customers are the KEY pieces to your business so I think you must make sure they are being taken care on a continuous basis.
