Need some techie help

Have a problem with a new website I set up. It has been just 4 days.

it does show up on the results on pg1 for one of the keywords I optimized it for but without the www.

It just says domain.com on the results.

Does this mean it has not been indexed by google yet.

When I type in www.domain.com, it does not show up at all. Until yesterday the ad I had running pointing to the site was the only result when I typed in www.domain .com.
Today not even that.

What does that mean ?

Someone please shed some light.

    Do you have a robots.txt? And if so do you have it
    in your root directory or in a subfolder?

      Get less than 100,000 of results in Google and use a .com domain name and install a Wordpress blog. Allinoneseopack, sitemap plugins, etc.

        Yes, have a sales page but also a blog optimized for SEO. SEO all in one pack and the google site map plugin, pretty permalinks etc

        Ross, thanks, I am slowly starting to see more results.

        Limoge, what are 301 redirects ? please redirect me in the right direction ..and I have some surfing to do. Told ya, I is no techie.

      I don't have a robots txt. Note even sure what it is, lol. Pls explain

      Have a sales page and a blog in a subdirectory. Got the Google sitemap plugin for the blog and have the sitemap linked on the footer. I submitted the sitemap to Google. Picked up all this by surfing.

      Other than that, have ads, squidoo, hubpages and plenty social marketing sites pointing to my site or pointing to each other.

    That was alright. Once you have a link pointing to www.yourdomainname.com search engines will see it as www.yourdomainname.com and not yourdomainname.com. If you see a page in Google then it is already indexed.

      If the page 1 results you are talking about are in google then the site has been indexed by google as yourdomain.com. Google (and other search engines too I think) prefer to have your site indexed one way only, either with the www or without.

      If you have or create a google webmaster account you can use the "Set preferred domain" tool to "Associate a preferred domain with this site, to always or never show the leading "www." in Google's search results."

      From most of what I've read, the majority suggest that you go with one way or the other and make sure all your inbound links also use the form you pick. And in case you don't know or control how people will link to you, use a 301 redirect to force links to be in the form of the site name that you are using.
