Tutorial videos can get popular and so can comedy videos.
It depends on the niche really and what you can create to gain views and subscribers.

Have you got a niche in mind?

Find something unique and entertaining that people like to watch and then make videos.

Check out FPS Russia. All he does is introduce a weapon, show it and fire it.

His videos are usually very short but get millions of views.

And it's always fun to watch someone blow up an outhouse with incendiary ammo...

The tip i would give is to start a channel about...(and it has been said numerous time i am sure).... something that you are actually interested in.
The reason for this is quite simple - after the first few days, maybe even weeks of making videos, you will start to become bored, or un interested in the process especially as you are unlikely to see instant cash results.

If you ARE passionate about the subject you will get through this lull in proceedings, carry on making videos and there is a better chance of making some money as a result.

Whatever your passion i am sure there are many many people out there that would watch - just make good, viewable videos and you are half way there.

    Good luck!

  • With YouTube, it's easy to get bored and stop creating videos after a short while when you have done os many boring videos on topics you don't enjoy.

After a short while, you'll definitely enjoy yourself in the long run when you decide to use youtube as a place to showcase your favorite stuff, so find a niche you enjoy and make vids on that. As long as you are solving some sort of problem, you'll succeed and have subscribers.

I have an account with 4k subs and 200k views. Was making like $100-$200 a month. You gotta find a hot niche that is untapped. If your going to compete plan on dominating your niche. I'd say doing 2 videos a day for an entire year will get you at about 2k a month.

I started in YouTube doing tutorial videos on a popular software program. I found the most popular videos on that topic by other creators to get an idea of what people were looking for. Then I set out to create the best videos on those topics.

Something I found very helpful in the beginning was also boosting my videos by buying ads within YouTube. This allowed me to get a lot more views on my videos in the beginning. And since the videos were good they would also get a lot of likes which really helps your rankings. I found it to be very helpful for getting some momentum for your channel.

You can make money from YouTube but don't expect to to come overnight. I have a Youtube channel with 200k views and around 2k members and it makes around $100 a month from Adsense and more through affiliate marketing.

You need to pick a niche you enjoy talking about and then add videos daily.

        Gvidass,

Those who said you should choose a niche that you're passionate about left out one important thing, especially when you plan to earn ad revenues from your Youtube videos, and it's -- The niche that you're passionate about should at least also have decent commercial value. For example:

I'm passionate about guitar playing, which has decent commercial value, and many beginner to expert guitar players actively search in Google and in Youtube and in Bing and talk online in Facebook and in Web forums and in other online places about different brands and models of guitars, guitar amps, digital and analog guitar effects, etc. Plus:

As a guitar player myself, I want to hear how a specific guitar, guitar amp, digital / analog guitar FX brand / model sounds, before I even start to drool over it and save up to buy it. With this:

If I had time, then I'd work at a nearby store that sells musical instruments like acoustic and electric guitars, guitar amplifiers, digital and analog guitar effects, etc., or talk to the managers of that store and offer to video myself testing the different product brands / models that they have, where I'd post those videos in Youtube, promote those videos, earn from ad revenues, build a mailing list of subscribers via links in the description that point to my opt-in offer (a compiled download of those videos), and earn from commissions via affiliate links in my follow-up emails, which point to the shopping cart page of the store's website for the specific products that I recommend to my subscribers in the follow-up emails...

Hmmm... Sounds like a decent plan...

There are 2 approaches you can take:

    1. Popular channel;
    2. Video ranking (YT, Google, Yahoo, Bing, SERPs).

Only you can decide on the market you serve. Learn about market research and employ what you know.

    TIP: Record your passion

I have been through it and I have recorded stuff that I was not really passionate about and really it just stopped after a week.

Think of a hobby or something you like doing and you can go a long way. I mean people are making money playing games!

The most earning 2014 youtuber is someone opening disney toys. I mean if you find something you like to do and record 1 video a day I am sure you will be able to build some followers.

Well, I've been successfully making money from youtube videos for years now and here is essentially what I do:

    1. Choose a profitable niche (preferably a niche that I have experience in)
    2. Create helpful videos that address questions within the niche and I answer those questions based on my experience
    3. Then at the end of the video I have a call-to-action to check out a free ebook, video, etc...with more info about the topic.
    4. Send the viewers to a squeeze page where they can sign up for the free offer.
    5. Promote affiliate products and my own products via email mixed with valuable content emails.
    6. Repeat step 2
    7. Engage with viewers and encourage them to get involved with the channel (comment, like, subscribe)
