How many views per month is good?

My site currently received 200,000 uniques in a short period but since then has been receiving about 2,000 - 3,000 daily uniques.

Should I start monetizing now? What type of money could I sell ads for with this traffic?

      It all depends upon a number of variables including where your traffic is coming from, what you intend to do with it, what the purpose of your site is, the market that you're in, etc.

      I don't think anyone here can give you definitive answers to your questions not knowing what your intent and purpose is.

      I would say that it's never too soon to test out your traffic and see how responsive visitors might be to your offers. If your monetization strategy is to sell advertising, put yourself in the role of a prospect and ask yourself questions like:
      • How is the traffic to this site targeted?
      • How consistent is the traffic?
      • How disposed are they to buying what I offer?
      • How often do visitors return to this site after the initial look?
      • Is my ad on this site going to pay for itself and more?
      My initial reaction is that advertisers are going to want to see consistently high traffic in their niche on your site if they are going to invest in advertising with you - at least I would. And I'd want that traffic to be potential buyers rather than those simply "browsing for entertainment."

      How much you can sell ads for will depend totally upon the market you're in, the competition, and what value you can offer.

    Throw up some ads on that site! haha. But it depends on what your trying to do. IF your just expecting to get paid from ad money you need a lot of visitors. But if your building a list you don't need much. You can assume that out of 100 visitors 10 will opt in and 1 will buy.

      Difficult (as so often!) to add much to Steve's so-helpful reply, above (and a little frustrating to have to do so in the face of the gratuitously interspersed one-line, fatuous, nonsense-posts from people covering the board with trite comments when they so evidently have no idea what they're talking about), but I'd like to add one observation, anyway ...

      Like most IM-related questions that start with the words "How many ...?" it's slightly missing the point, to put it bluntly!

      1,000 highly targeted, responsive visitors are worth a lot more than 100,000 random ones.

      Quality matters; quantity very much less so.

      Quantity alone leads nowhere (including not to any meaningful, helpful answers to questions of the kind you're asking ); quality eventually leads everywhere (including, eventually, to quantity!).

      It's all about traffic demographics. In short, the answer to what you're asking depends not on how many visitors there are but on who they are.

    One metric you should look at is how many pages your visitors land on before they leave the site. Pages/session is a pretty interesting metric

    Hi D,

    No number sticks out to me. 1 idea does; if you're super clear on the direction of your brand and if you connect with leaders in your niche, forming bonds with them, and if you create immense value through your content, you'll not need to worry about numbers.

    That's my take at least

    It all depends on the type of site you have. If you have a site that is purely entertainment i.e. something like UnilLad and TheLadBible, then you should consider using videos and monetizing them with adsense. You could also add ad banners on your site where you get payment every month.

    If the site is like the ones above, then the average price to set the banner ads would be $100-$200 a month considering you get 3,000 daily impressions. However its best to price it lower since the traffic isn't really targeted.

    If you have a niche site that is getting this much traffic, then you can monetize the ad banners for a higher price thus making more money in the process.

    However it's hard to tell without you giving any prior information about your site.

    Views per month doesn't mean anything. If you want to place value on anything that is quantitative based... then place value on the number of good leads that you're getting everyday into your autoresponder. Then scale it up to the number of good 1st time customers that you're getting for your product. Then super-scale it up to the number of backend sales your getting for your follow-up product. Then ultra-scale it up to the number of backend sales your getting for the rest of your backend products.

    Page views alone... what are you supposed to do with this number? I can get you 5,000 views a day from traffic exchanges... but would you be happy with that?

    I'd be more concerned about why it dropped so much.

    Volume is related to monetization. If I'm monetized with Miami condos, then a few dozen visits a day is pretty good. On the other hand, if I'm pushing MMORPG offers, then I'd need 5-figures a day to make it interesting.

    This is not necessarily a question of the number of views. I have two websites. One has every day 5k -8K visitors, the other only 200. The 200 is still stronger in every way. This page climbs better in the search engines and enjoys more confidence. According Majestic SEO is the page with much less daily visitors better than other with much more traffic.

      There are TWO issues with this site

      One: the site is an adult site and technically has only on page

      Two: it is nsfw so Adsense and Yahoo affiliate are out of the question I believe

    It depend your niche. Some niche have 200 -500 visitor /days. It can made $1000 per month. That niche could specific target. You could to try adsense or buy banner.

    Averages for banner ads are

    720 * 90 or bigger = $2 per 1k impressions
    300 * 250 = $1 per 1k impressions
    150 * 150 = $0.25 per 1k impressions

    Only visits per day isn't enough to tell you if you should start monetizing or not. Look at other metrics like pageviews per visit, bounce rate, time per visit etc. A good value of all these metrics varies with the type of website.
    The decision to start monetizing is an important one in order to get a good bargain from Google. Takee time, analyze, then go forward.
