Hi guy's
I am new to web hosting and am looking to host my own wordpress site. I have chosen to go with host gator, I am just unsure about how many web sites can I host on my account is it just one? Or does it cost $8 per domain name.

Any help is most appreciated

    Hi Samuelbell,

I'm not familiar with Hostgator in particular but with most hosting companies there are generally 3 options available:

    1) You pay to host a single domain - it's cheapest if you only want a single domain.

    2) You pay to host multiple domains, then share your disk-space and bandwidth between them as you choose - it's more expensive if you only have a single domain to host, but far cheaper on a per-domain basis if you own multiple domains.

    3) Similar to the above but with extra facilities that allows you to discretely 'partition off' areas of 'your' storage/bandwidth, to be used (and controlled) by somebody else who has no access to the rest of your space - costs more again than option 2 but allows you to resell hosting yourself.

If you're into IM then you will almost certainly wind up wanting more than just a single domain, so I'd advise that you either buy the 2nd option at the outset or ensure that you can upgrade to it.

We have the 3rd option because it enables me to resell hosting space to local business owners, any 2 of whom effectively cover the costs of my hosting package between them. The 3rd business owner onwards is then pure profit (passive income), and of course all my own websites are effectively hosted for free.

    HTH,

    Andrew

  • It sounds like you have a Hostgator "Baby" account, which allows unlimited domains. To add additional domains, you simply log into your cPanel and look for the "Addon Domains" button and fill in the info. From there, you simply input your Hostgator nameservers at your registrar and your domains are pointed to your hosting.

  • I'm stoked I could help. I'm 99% sure that I had that same question rattling around in my head back when I created my first Hostgator account a few years ago so I'm glad I could help out.
