Is there anyone who have had success selling their domains? From like Flippa, or GoDaddy Auctions? I seen this was a good way to make money online also. I have a few good domains just hanging around on my webhost, Just want to know how would I go about trying to sell them.

  • No, I haven't personally..

However, I attended a seminar, where one guy was buying domains and selling them on ebay

    He said:

It's about quanity (Buy lots of good domains for cheap)
    Create good auctions

I was making a KILLING selling domains back in the day. I used to charge $300 per domain sold. I had like 60 domains in the timeline of 2 years and each domain sold for $300+. So I made around $18k selling domains.

That's perhaps why your reply contributes nothing helpful to the thread, and is completely misguided. Still, it got your signature-file on the board yet again, didn't it?

Nonsense. That's awful advice. All three sentences are misguided. You don't seem to know what you're talking about at all.

It's emphatically not about quantity, or "auctions".

Buy only domain-names that you already know you'll be able to find a potential buyer-pool for.

Don't imagine that it's about "buying good domains and just listing them for sale in the right places". That's deluded.

Yes; several of us here do this.

It's my "second business", not my main one, but I've been doing it for over 5 years, now, and have one full-time employee doing it with me, and I continue to do it. I've bought and sold a few hundred domain-names over the years.

It's not about "where you sell them". That doesn't matter at all.

What matters is your skill-set at identifying, approaching and negotiating with people to whom the name may have added value because of the nature of their own businesses. If those people don't know that they're for sale, it will make no difference where you sell them.

It's a highly skilled and tricky business with quite a big learning-curve.

Be aware that it's a long learning-curve, and that's far from trivial to answer.

Be very careful with Warrior Forum "information" about selling domain-names. As you can see from one of the posts above, some of the people who post here on this subject have very little idea of what they're talking about, at all. (In some threads, some of them even seem barely aware that "domaining" is a totally different business model from selling websites! ). The people here who know what they're talking about, whose posts are worth seeking, following and learning from, on this subject, include Gene Pimentel, Suzanne Bucciarelli, Steve Browne and Tom Addams.

Gene now promotes Master Domaining | Daily Training on How to Master Domaining, by Expert Gene Pimentel, which is a monthly membership website where you get daily domain flipping tips. Highly recommended.

    Good luck!

I'm getting over 100 visitors a day to my domains for sale website. I've got a custom site dedicated to selling domain names and I post and follow discussions on Linkedin. If you have something you want to sell, there is a buyer out there. You just need to be willing to bargain. I sold LVGold.com this week for $300. I had it listed for $750.

I removed the line but seriously, spam? My site is listed in my signature. I was offering a suggestion as well as an example of what can be done.

There are rules about linking to your own site, in posts, Mo. You can doubtless imagine what the board would look like if there weren't, in a forum with over 800,000 members?

I have yet to post a domain for sale to be honest, Im to greedy and try to keep them around, just in case someone sends me an email and wants it desperately.

I am pretty new in this myself but what I know sofar is:

            1. .com > than anything else
            2. the shorter the domain the bigger the buck
            3. Correct written words way more worth than words with typos
            4. Nouns more worth than verbs and verbs more worth than adjectives (might be wrong here though, just a feeling)
            5. If using multiple words in a domain, they need to have sense together - GoRun.com > BlondeOyster.com
            6. Avoid use of hyphens where possible
7.4 letter .com combinations are still outthere, rule of thumb: if you can pronounce it, it is worth keeping.
            8. The higher the price of the CPC on the keyword / keyphrase in domain the higher the domain price:
            Insurance"smthng" > Fishing"smthng"
            9. if buying on secondary market:
            a. The older the domain the better
            b. If it has a DMOZ entry or Wikipedia mention its more valuable
            c. .edu / .gov backlinks on the domain are giving additional value
            d. Thurstflow, Mozrank etc... important metrics to look up for the domain
            e. PR rank of the domain additional value gain
            f. WARNING: Expired domains = "Dropped domains" loose their age, it is beeing reset (had to learn it the hard way)
            g. WARNING 2: Always check for possible google penalty or spammy backlink structure on the domain.
            10. Forget everything you read 1-9 in case you find someone who "must have" that exact domain name.

I'm getting PMs about how I'm making money selling domains so I'll post it here.

What I basically do is look for a YouTube channel which is getting bigger. I look to see whether they are getting popular, increasing views, subscribers etc and once I feel they will be successful, I purchase a domain name with their YouTube name so something like "YouTube Username" dot com and other alternatives.

I then approach them when they are more successful and tell them the benefits of having their own site and creating a brand where they can promote their own merchandise and goods. After they agree, I receive a payment of $300 to send the domain to them. Easy cash.

Do take in consideration that not all people buy domains so you'll probably have tens that don't sell at all. It doesn't matter though as the ones that do buy the domains pay a high cost to receive them.

Do you add the word "YouTube" to the domain because if you do I see that causing some issues.

Buying and selling domain names isn't hard but it's not easy either. I spend most of my time finding buyers for my domains instead of figuring out valuations because domain names really can't be valued.

You learn as you go, so if you try to get into selling domains make sure you're willing to learn from your mistakes.

I just decided to get rid of some of my domain "baggage", and Sedo or Flippa won't touch the two that have facebook in the name. Neither of which is up, so I thinks it's okay to name them here.

Like I said, neither of them even has an index.html or anything - just sitting there in limbo, so I hope this post isn't against the rules...

So, what should I do with them? I was thinking eBay would be my best option.

You can buy the domains and set them up on domain parking to earn because of the natural organic traffic(while waiting for a buyer)

Domaining is an extremely simple business - after all, you're simply buying low and selling high.

BUT - it's a very complicated business as well, if you want to make a consistent income and substantial living from it. There are a lot of techniques and methods used that take time to master. There is a long learning curve to get it right.

The upside? It's an amazing business to be in. I'm as enthuiastic about it today as I was when I started over a decade ago.
