Hacking the iTunes Podcast Rankings

Hey Warriors,

3 quick things:

1. I'm curious if any of y'all know any tips or tricks to boost the rankings in the iTunes podcast directory?

Obviously the more downloads, 5 star ratings and feedback a show gets is a major determining factor but I'm curious if there's any tips/hacks that could also help boost the ratings of a show?

I was pretty stoked to see we landed at #8 in the Business / Marketing category (and even passed Seth Godin - that felt good) but I'm really curious how I can push it even farther?

Also, is there any tips on how to get displayed in the "New And Noteworthy" section? That would be sweet to hit as well.

I'm having a lot of fun doing the show and look forward to doing more, but really would like to start approaching it with some sort of strategy instead of just throwing shows into the wind.

Any feedback or knowledge would be appreciated.

2. What kind of things do you like about podcasts?

Do you like funny stuff? Strictly marketing and how to? Short interviews? In depth interviews? Do commercials bother you?

I'm keen to find out what people like and don't like about podcasts.

3. How do you listen to podcasts?

On your phone? Computer? In your car?

Thanks!!!

Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.

Thanks for those references. I will check them out.

As for my setup I kind of do a piece meal effect to put together the show.

I use a Blue Yeti USB microphone that plugs into Garageband on the Mac. I record all my solo parts on that and then mix in music with Garageband.

I record the guest interviews on Skype and use Call Recorder to record those. Then I drag those recordings into the Garageband and edit them up all tightly.

My goal is to have the show sound more like a radio show with quick segments rather than a long drawn out show where we gab and talk for an hour or two.

The feedback so far has been really good and it seems people appreciate the way we keep the show flowing and respect their time.
