Where Can I Get High Quality Images Free?

Hey everyone,

I love Shutterstock but find it pretty expensive.

Are there any sites out there to get great images/web skins/ icons etc of a high quality (photoshop) but free or let you pay per download as opposed to monthly subscriptions?

A lot of the so called "free" ones suddenly ask for money as soon as you have spent 30 minutes on their site finally selecting an image

Pixabay is a good site for images.

There free and available for commercial use. You don't even have to credit the owner.

Graphicstock and kozzi both offer 7 day free trails.

  I just spent the last half hour trying to find free photos as well.
  
  I would also recommend Morguefile.com as JamesMr did. I was so surprised by the quality and selection of the photos and that they are free to use without attribution.
  
  Unsplash.com is another one with beautiful high res free photos!

You can checkout the Pixabay,Pexels,Unsplash,imagesource etc. There are a lot and you will find some suitable images for you in each site when you browse.

One suggestion, if you're putting these on your site, I'd take a couple of extra minutes to make sure they aren't originally from Getty Images. They're coming after publishers pretty good and frankly, it's a pain to deal with, even if you haven't done anything wrong-

  Google image search will allow you to upload an image to search with. It will show you that image elsewhere and most of the time you will know if it belongs to someone else

PhotoDune offer the cheapest "quality" images I've seen. They charge $1 for their small size images which are big enough for blog posts and most other uses. Pixabay photos and any of the FREE options out there are garbage in my opinion.

  Garbage? You can't have looked very closely at them. They have some of the best photos around and they are 100% free.

  Personally I've used photos from unprofound when I was researching urban community pics for a non-profit based customer.

  So if you really like a pic from the site, you would just need to check to see if attribution is required or just let them know where the pic is being used. Owner of site is easy to communicate with.

I personally search Google for the image I want, then change the search tools to labeled for reuse, this leaves me with many options instead of just going to one of the normal places. sure you end up using Shuttershock, Pixabay or whatever images are there, but sometimes you get other places and better images as well!

  Do NOT do this, this is how people get into so much trouble in the first place. The only reason Google Image search exists is because they had better lawyers than the ones representing the image copyright holders who sued them. Using images sourced from GI (especially in a commercial project) is a Cease and Desist letter waiting to happen.

Hi

Pixabay and freeimages.com are great for blog images etc

But it really depends on what you are going to use the images for.

The paid sites will give you more choice and quality in general
