Can Internet Marketing help a Furniture Retail Store? I wanted to know what could be done in terms of Internet Marketing for a Retail Furniture Store that has never been online before and has never been involved in Internet Marketing? How would you start tackling this goal?

    It can definitely help think of it as a low cost alternative to T.V. Ads

    I would start by placing free classified ads for your local area Craigslist, Backpage, etc...

    Then I would get a website or blog started and start showing off your companies products for starters

    Local SEO, targeting your city/county/ and state is what you need to do.. That will mean starting with creating a quality website for your business, might be best to hire a wordpress designer if you are inexperienced, and then learn local SEO or hire a local SEO expert to optimize your site..

      Not sure what exactly the kind of retail furniture store it is, but if they drop ship to consumers who order from them out of state well you could...

      Start a Site about Furniture and have Content that talks about some of the best brands and what to look for as far as style etc..etc.. and then have a Optin where they can sign up for a VIP list to get the best possible pricing on newest promotions for furniture.

    We have furniture dealer clients who focus daily marketing efforts on Craigslist. A quick scan of the For Sale > Furniture > By Dealer section of any city will reveal the high volume of daily ads in that section. These clients simply post furniture images, short description and a phone number or email. They don't all necessarily even have a website. And, they consistently post there 7 days a week. If those posts were not producing results, you wouldn't see all that marketing activity there. Obviously, you cannot hinge all your online marketing efforts in any one channel, but you need it working on all cylinders to be effective.

    You can and should create your website with the furniture that you have in stock and also include your prices.

    Then what you can do is get a sticker on your car promoting your website. This of course, should be done locally.

        I recall a marketer way, way back in the AOL/CompuServe days who bought used PCs, refurbished them and sold them on for a profit. He sold them using online classifieds, with a twist.

        He didn't advertise "Used Computers for Sale" by Company X. He placed ads offering a single used PC, often on college-centered sections and billboards.

        Seems to me that the same approach would work today on sites like CL and BP...

        Oh, and the used PC seller? He sold hundreds of them, one machine at a time.

          Gosh, the good ole days of AOL and Compuserve. AOL is still hustling for a Living with Net Income of about $92 million in 2013.

          Funny enough, my Dad and Uncle still use an AOL address and pay the monthly $10 for it after all these years

    Working as a Multi-Unit manager in NYC for over 20 years and a IMer for over 15 years, I can say that IMing can help any retail store.

    Just adding to the list of suggestions above.

    Quick list of how IM can help your Furniture store :

    1. Well designed SEO wordpress website that is a responsive design (mobile ready)

    2. Set up mailing list (HUGE HELP)

    3. Set up social media accounts (HUGE HELP)

    4. Add all the images of your furniture in your website with alt tags

    5. Make sure your images are showing up in all of your major social media sites

    6. In blog set up content, you can make designing suggestions for there homes, of course with your furniture in the suggestions. Answer questions that you often get in the store. etc.

    7. get positive feed back from your clients and that will help place you higher on SE

    8. Local SEO tactics on your site (HUGE HELP)

    9. Place your website in the top 50 plus local directories (huge for local Citation)

    10. Add your website and social media links to all your in store marketing, back of register slips, signage by registers, signs in front of store

    How to track your goal

    1. Set up your Google analytics, the 1st 30 days or so of your new website will be your normal traffic

    2. Start now to track your daily customers to your store, average sales per hours and also track conversion rate. I hope all or more you are already doing for your retail business.

    3,. Once your content, social media and other IM suggestions from above start to drive traffic, you will see the difference in Google analytics numbers and in your customer traffic and conversion in your store front.

    I can keep going, but yes internet marketing NEEDS to be part of your tool chest not if it should be. IM and Store fronts need to work together to stay ahead of the competition.
