Is Amazon Still Worth It?

Good Afternoon -

Getting ready to launch our new fitness site in a few months. Not sure how to ask this but I REALLY need to make a decision on folding in Amazon products (via affiliate promotion) into our daily threads, interviews, posts, etc. The question is "Does Amazon still result in great product conversions or/and repeat sales?"

Would love to hear what your Amazon experience is here and if you know of anyone making at least $500 - $1000 a month as an Amazon affiliate.

Thanks in advance,

Lance

    Yes and no.

The brand carries weight, leading to strong sales conversions. Further: you'd be populating your site with quality, resulting in repeat sales from repeating visitors. If you're trusted for recommending quality, this will have a positive impact on sales and conversions.

On the other hand, Amazon should not be your only form of monetization. Commission percentages are well below the industry standard, and on the whole, this is not offset by the high level of brand recognition. You'd do well to consider creating your own products, whether you do so yourself or have them commissioned, and mixing in high-end affiliate offers from a variety of CPA networks.

I would use both Amazon and Clickbank.

Amazon works well for the fitness niche ( Well it did a couple of years ago ) and you can target new fitness products.

I did OK with selling new exercise products such as treadmills and rowing machines as an affiliate a couple of years ago so I should imagine it's still a good niche to target.

As for Clickbank, you will need to build a list and use email marketing to sell a certain fitness product in the niche.

This can both be done on the one site.

    Good luck!

Thanks - yes will have to build a brand new list. Thinking of a nice giveaway fitness e-book to build my list and keep them engaged to stuff afterwards pushing them back to site for the reads.

Treadmills? Wow - and I was thinking of just low ticket items. That's really sweet! That's great!

Personal opinion, only, here, natch ...

You should definitely think of high-ticket items, too. You need both, with Amazon: high volume of low-cost items to qualify for the "sales per month criteria" to get up to 8% commissions, and then high-ticket items (which you can far more effectively promote to "subscribers" than to "visitors", of course) to earn the money you've become qualified to earn.

The major difficulty is the geographical one. You need to register separately at separate Amazon companies. It makes no sense to limit yourself to one country (even the US), unless for some reason all your traffic-gathering is already geotargeted.

In your sort if niches (I'm guessing completely, from your sig-file), I would certainly want to do ClickBank as well as Amazon. As mentioned above, you can combine the two - don't need separate sites/lists for them, of course.

As Tom mentions, above, the underlying basis of doing well on Amazon is "high conversions because of low commissions". You really do need high conversion-rates: all the people I see, here, asking for "Amazon-related advice", when they give any figures, seem to be dealing with single-figure conversion-rates, and from my perpspective it's highly questionable whether it's worth messing about with it, on that basis. Amazon is a lot of work, and a little different from "other things". You really do need to "get it right", to make it worthwhile. If you're thinking of search-engine traffic and only low-cost items, and without good email marketing, and geotargeted as well, I'd really question whether you should do it at all.

Anyway, the three threads I linked to above will help you more than my ramblings, here.

Amazon was never worth it to me. They screwed me royally and my income too. $100/day gone instantly. Froze my funds and banned my account. I shipped out all the products before the money got deposited into my bank account. Business was instantly gone.Had to go work at the local Taco Bell just to pay rent. Don't think you're going to sell a $700 physical product on Amazon... just because their name is Amazon.

Don't mean to discourage you but.... i was never an "affiliate" of Amazon. I just sold products through them when i signed up to them about 8 years ago. I've just decided to use another way to make the money.

If you want to pursue it though... good luck. Hope it works out for you.
