List the Domains You've bought and sold

To help us newbies, it would be good if people were up for listing a few recent domain flips they've done, and possibly what they've sold them for!

Be really interesting know.

    How do you think their purchasers would feel about that, Dave, if/when people Google their sites and find such Warrior Forum references to that context of the domain ranking very highly in the SERP's (as is easily possible)? It's only a thought, and I wouldn't expect everyone to agree with it anyway, but I wouldn't be at all comfortable discussing them in public, myself.

    If you're interested in past domain sales, take a look at NameBio.com. I can see why you're asking - might be fun to see some sales figures from folks who post on here. You'll likely not get many answers, though. The biggest reason will be to stop saturation. Imagine someone, for instance, showing his hand: a domain he sold last week for $17,500 that he purchased for $0.99. Saturation. Saturation actually doesn't concern me, though. You have to know the ins-and-outs of what professional domain flippers do to even begin saturating the market, and even then, given all of the opportunities, it's unlikely to happen. But that'll be why some keep quiet. Me, I keep quiet because I know what I say will turn up in Google, quite highly, for any given domain I mention. If my buyer purchased a domain for, say $3,500, and he tries to flip it on for $8,500, he'd likely lose potential sales if his leads went Googling. So, just my approach, but I think it's best to keep quiet. At least on a forum with Google juice.

    No harm in asking the question though, buddy. I'd be interested, too.

      I frequent Flippa to spy out sites that sell, and to get ideas, but never really had an interest in domain flipping. Maybe I'll try to unload a few of mine and see what they sell for...

      Example: Let's say some chap says, "I recently sold BostonInjuryLawyer.com for $4,000.

      You'd then have a glut of people using a few simple tools I could mention and tacking on "injurylawyer" to the end of every major location in the free world. Doing so, would likely be beneficial.

      Of course, "injury lawyer" is a poor example, since it's very well-known in the domaining industry, but imagine if I were to clue the public in on lesser-known terms, geographic or otherwise.

          Edit 2: One of the ways I find high-value domains to flip (and I have several systems) is by looking at threads just like this one. Only difference is, I'm usually on other forums: DNForum.com, usually. It's good. You get inspiration, but you also see what's in demand. A bit like owning a retail shop in the offline world: you see what people are buying most and you stock up on those items. Even saying this much is probably not doing me any favours. lol

    Maybe he is not asking for the exact domain name. Maybe you can say that "i've brought a short a brand name/exact match domain in health niche with 5k and in 2 months i've sold it for 10k.

    Another example.

    This morning I found a domain for a client that he is literally this second registering (99 cents with a Godaddy coupon) and it's actually worth well over $5K. It's an easy flip. He doesn't want to use it to flip, though; my staff are developing a website for him.

    Point is: I now have one of my staff looking at all of the variations of that domain so I can buy them and either develop them myself or flip them. It should work out very well. The client gets a domain worth 5 figures, it adds immense value to his upcoming website, and I get an inroad into some possible 5-figure domains.

    That is how this information works in practice. Good timing, since it's happening today in my case.

      It is possible your client would not be thrilled to read the thread or to find out you are doing this. It would be one thing to find variations for your client to profit from, and then ask if you can do this if your client is not interested in the domains.

      You are also potentially creating competition for your client's website with a bunch of similar domains.

      Example, using yours from a prior post you get bostoninjurylawyer.com for your client and develop a website for him. Then you register a variation bostoninjurylawyers.com for yourself and develop your website. No doubt you can see the conflict, competition, and problem.

      Sure, maybe your client doesn't care. But you probably just lost a few clients you'll never know about because they want someone to help them - not to use their private and confidential dealings so you can grab variations for your personal use.

        One of the reasons I rarely post on WF is due to this very reason. It's such a time-drain. I now have to explain what should be blatantly obvious.

        Let us say the domain is BostonInjuryLawyer.com. Do you really think LosAngelesInjuryLawyer.com will compete with the client website? Truly? How about LondonInjurySolicitor.co.uk?

        Variation.

        I find a valuable domain for a client, one worth 5-figures (easily), that can be registered for 99 cents. I then look at "variations" based on that, explained two paragraphs up.

        The client has even been given this thread and we're exchanging project emails. It's really quite infuriating having to explain the simplest of things. I hope the above will suffice, but experience teaches me that it won't.
