Article Marketing- What's The Point? Content Theft

I just did a check on some of my articles only to find a good portion of my articles are on other sites without any credit given to me as the author. I do not use PLR. My articles I write are original and take time to write. How can I profit if others are taking my work and using it as their own. I am trying to use article marketing as a stepping stone and save up my profit, but if my articles are being stolen...how am I going to compete with that?? I came across about 2 people who actually gave me a link back to Ezine articles. The others just stole the content and put their names on the bottom as the author or it's just a wordpress site with content on it. I understand some folks use article directories as a way to stimulate their own writing material, but to just take the whole article and post it... that's not ethical. I know there are some platforms out there now that allow you to pull in articles into your own Wordpress website and in fact, I own some of the software, but only use it to pull in product demographics, not other folks privately-inspired material.

I need someone to explain the best way for me to prosper using this method. I was a bit pissed, but I just want to learn how to best deal with the situation. I'm in to win and just want another strategy on how to do this. Is this wishful thinking or should I just keep posting and ignore the copies? I guess I'm thinking no matter where I post my material, my own website, or on a directory, the potential for theft is always present. How would you proceed?

A lot of people new to article marketing view backlinks as the reason to write articles. Stop that. The benefit of article marketing on sites like EZA is you are leveraging their trustrank to rank highly in the SERPS for whatever keyword you are gunning for. And by ranking highly, EZA will get page views (with the potential of adsense clicks)....but you will get the small percentage of people who will go down to your resource box and click to go to whatever page you are promoting.

The sites that are scraping content have a very small chance of getting that. And the backlinks from article directories aren't enough to warrant writing solely for them from an SEO perspective.

So I guess in a nutshell, submit articles to article directories with high page rank so that my original article will trump those borrowed articles that are on other peoples sites then. I was hoping I was not working in vain. That gives me hope that my plan will bring about some fruit. Thank you for the post.

Exactly. For added push, build backlinks to your submitted articles using other web 2.0 properties as per the popular and effective "linkwheel" method.

try writing your articles in such a way that even if stolen they still benefit you. Mention your site, product, name etc. That way, even if lifted, you still get something back from it.

I like your attitude. You're treating this as the learning experience it is. You're not panicking or acting rash. Kudos. While others are rightfully counseling that you not worry about the theft too much, it is still theft. No reason at all not to email the site owners with a brief note explaining the fact that they're welcome to use the article as long as proper credit is given, and that they are violating copyright law without doing so. Still, that sort of thing is soul-deadening. Ultimately it might be worth spending that same energy creating great new content.

Easy, just get some backlinks to your article. Most people who steal others articles and use them without the resource box are lazy and probably will not link to them. All you need is a couple of links and yours will outrank them.

Plus, as mentioned, your articles with the resource boxes are still providing valuable links to your site .... and once you get links to those articles the links to your site become even more valuable!

    Hey seriousmny,

set up some google alerts with the titles
of your articles, your name, your companie's name, etc.

That way you can keep track of the violations and stop
    the madness

I never would have thought of that. This way I won't have to hunt for them myself. Google will bring them all to me as soon as they find them. That's what I like about this forum, there are lots of thinkers in this place. Thank you for the tip.
