Classifieds - Help me Decide

INTERNET MARKETING

Hi

I come from Leeds.

I have decided that the website needs an authority classified ads network, or a business directory type thing... a lovely modern one. You know, with an app etc where anyone coming to the town can download and instantly see where everything is

are these good ideas?

I have heard that directories and classifieds is not the way to go?

what is the best way? blogs? download websites? i'm not so sure

don't really want to set off down the classifieds route if you can tell me it's easier to make an ebook, for example

Yes, it's easier to make an ebook than to build a classified ads site that is profitable. Much easier. Will it make you money? That all depends upon you, your niche, and your ability to market to a targeted audience.

well the niche would be Leeds.. Stuff for Sale in Leeds. So it's basically just a website where people list things that are for sale. There's nothing taylor made and specific for the city! There's gumtree but that's not specific enough for most peoples needs.

  No, Leeds is not a niche - it's a place. It's a demographic location where you want to focus your selling efforts.
  
  Take a look at Craig's list for a business model that you might pattern something after. I think you would do best if you choose a specific vertical and focus your efforts on being the best in that one thing. For example, maybe you know a lot about antiques. Focus on classified ads for those wanting to buy and sell antiques.

Don't promote your website for search engine rankings. Use classifieds for promoting you products instead promoting your website. Classifieds are the best channels to market products.

How are you going to monetize this?

Apps and classified ads, probably aren't the best place to start (High investment, big risk)

Start small to test the niche..

1) Create a ebook, that people can download to know more about leeds
2) Create a blog with pictures, descriptions and maps
3) If you get results, start progressing to bigger, and larger things (Classified, Apps, etc)

Actually if you want to just have a 'local' feel for folks to buy-sell-swap a lot of people are having success with Facebook pages - just create a FB page and call it 'Leeds Buy, Sell or Swap' and get people aware of it - it can lead to opportunities for connections, sales - if this is your wish. Directories, classifieds are very common online and it is very hard to make them 'work' commercially - but if there is an opening in Leeds you could market it successfully. Lot of work.

there are some premade platforms you can add to your site world wide i'd investigate that and be an affiliate much easier
