One question: What is blurb?

Hi people. Im reading for all places the word blurb, but... I don't know what it is.
Anybody can say me what is it? I saw that FCS tools allow use blurb, and i read you can add affilate banners in the blurb in a website.
Is it for it? Or the blurbs have other uses?
