I'm a Senior Citizen scam

I don't know about other product sellers, but I can't count how many times I have received a refund request starting "I am a senior citizen ...." and then something about that somehow means they cannot follow the report, use the software, do anything ....

I'll be the first one not to want to abuse my mom, grandma, others I know, AARP is all over me to pay them money, my eyesight is poor, and I spend a lot more time in the bathroom ... but let me just say more often than not these requests (in my experience) have proven to be scams.

Case in point. Just got one for a WordPress plugin sale saying they're a senior, didn't understand this was for WordPress, they never use WordPress so they need a refund.

OK. I can understand that. Until I check out the website used for the product purchase and it is running WordPress. And the name of the website is something real scammy like instant online millions (not the real name).

It's a shame what scammers will stoop to, and it admittedly has hardened the reaction to pleas for help. Needless to say, this person just hit my JVZoo blacklist. In addition to my personal bans, the service says it has almost 10,000 emails now banned system wide. Another 3000+ emails have been banned by multiple sellers that have not (yet) deserved a system wide ban. Wow. That's a lot of fraud.

Has happened to me more than once.

"I cannot afford this $7 WSO until next Thursday but I still bought it."

Pretty much anyone selling anything has to deal with this kind of stuff.

You just have to learn to not let it bother you and move on. I know it's hard, and I have given my share of refunds to people I was pretty sure were taking advantage of me.

If you don't refund them they can just do a charge back, and unless you sold them a physical product you will have an extremely hard time winning that battle. So you end up giving them their money back plus a charge back fee to boot.

This reminds me of a guy I went to school with years ago. He would buy computer parts from a local store like Walmart, put the new part in his computer, put the old part in the box the new part came in, and then return it for a refund.

It's crazy what people will do sometimes, but I have never had the senior citizen story used on me.

    Hello kindsvater,

Your post has been an eye opener.

In your post you outlined a strategy to deal with the problem, I would name it "Seller / Vendor Beware" - it goes like this: if you get a request for a refund check to see if your product was used before granting the request.

If possible build in to your products a trace or activation notice as evidence of it being used.

Some of the "stuff" I see being sold, pushed, spammed and fake reviewed is not worth it JMO

Maybe there is a reason people ask for refunds? If you have a refund policy honor it, if not get less sales.

JVZoo is pretty funny....look up a topic and then click some links....even 6 month old links lead to "domains" that are expired....

Not to mention there are tons of abandoned products - no updates, the "author" is no where to be found

A few months ago I bought a PLR report from some well known marketers. It was the second one I purchased from them. They seemed to be good however the second plr reports had one item missing. I put in numerous support tickets over a period of 1-3 weeks asking for the missing piece. After the first week the guy kept claiming he would upload it that day and also that it was coming soon. This went on for another two weeks until I asked for a refund.

The guy gave me a prompt refund and I was happy saying to myself I would never purchase from him again. Within the next few weeks more plr reports came out through jvzoo from other marketers a few interested me. I go to purchase and guess what lol. These other marketers had teamed up with that same marketer and they all had banned me.

Since when do you ban a customer for asking for a refund on incomplete product? This is one of the reasons why feel one needs to be extra careful when using certain platforms. I feel totally safe on clickbank, warriorplus, commission junction and most others though.

Because you're annoying as hell, putting numerous support tickets for the same product. Sometimes it's good to fire customers too.

Dang those annoying customers who demand complete products and don't just quietly go away and let you keep their money.

If only there was some way to improve customer experience here, something you could have done differently. Nah, fire them, and get others to fire them and get them blacklisted, it puts hair on your chest.

Honestly, very bad view to look at this. You do not know the exact circumstances.
