Personally, I never understood Adsense as a primary income method. Seems to me there are much better options with a higher return. I could see it as a secondary source of income on a high traffic site; but not as an "I want to start a website to make money with Adsense" kind of thing.

I think it works better in some niches than others.

I recently removed Adsense on most of my sites because even if every single visitor clicked on an ad, I'd still make more capturing 10% of them and getting them onto my email list.

Getting paid for people to leave your site isn't exactly a good business model.

You're exactly right with regards to it working better in some niches than others.

With respect for getting paid for people to leave your site not being a good business model, what if all of your visitors are already on your list and are coming to your site after clicking on a link to a post on your site from inside of an email you sent them?

yeah, the key is getting enough targeted traffic that is unique as in real traffic, avoid clicking on your own ads as your account may be suspended, just fight to get targeted clicks, that will maximize your revenue, hope you find this helpful

I agree, Adsense is often not a very good source of revenue. You have no control over the ads and they are usually very low converting, which means your losing potential sales, your losing money.

Go with a good affiliate program and you'll have a better opportunity to make more money. Plus you then control the ads and can tweak them to get the highest click-thru. You'll have the ability to get the biggest return from your traffic/visitors.

Some divisive advice here but overall, I agree with you Ron. Adsense wasn't what it used to be in it's heyday, it's much better to go into an affialtie program or drive offers through a traffic network.

The short answer is yes you can still make money using adsense. But there is a lot more option for monetizing than using adsense.

Using Adsense as a primary source of income, for your website is not really that profitable. If you are able to earn from Adsense, I agree with James and Ron, you will be able to earn more from other sources.

YES! You can. However, I would suggest you NOT to have Google Adsense as your ONLY source of income.

Yes, you can still make Money using Adsense. But it is not as easy ,IMHO, as it was 7 years ago.

I think if you really want to pursue Adsense then you need to ask yourself why ??

Because the model is not conducive for building a long term business.

You are totally relying on Search traffic and as we know that can be very up and down.

I think the best utilization of this Traffic is to develop long term customers with Email Marketing.

  • It all depends on your definition of success. Adsense as other have said can be a nice revenue stream, but it should never be your only one or your primary one.

For my personal site, I use to as a filler in my ad spots to show potential advertisers where "their" ads can be seen. I also have used it to determine my site impressions for those ad slots. There is no true way to determine it otherwise. It's not page views, visits or any combination of those and legit ad agencies or advertisers want to know how many people will see their ad before they lock into any type of financial agreement.

If this were the year 2000 I would say sure, get some good content, obey the rules and get going, but things have changed over the years, its now 2015 and while some still do make some decent money, by and large most of the other 99 percent make only a few pennies per month.

On top of that if your not 100 percent in compliance, including rules they don't publish, then you will end up getting suspended and or banned.

They run compliance from outsourced nations, (nothing against that) its just that they would rather be wrong about suspending and banning someone that perhaps did not break the rules than to miss anyone who is breaking the rules.

The long story short version here is to focus on a more profitable revenue generation system where you do not depend on a third party advertiser entity, run by fourth party non english speaking banners, .

Its about how much you make, if making .25 cents a month is cool with you go for it.

If you think that Adsense is fair? Go for it, personally I think its over for easily generating an income just by using adsense on a website.

This is the year 2015 and just like the year 2000, 99% of people who try to make money online by any means (not just Adsense) make only a few pennies for month.

For some niches and some models, adsense is the most profitable option for revenue generation - especially when you're on the publisher side of the internet world.

And it's far from over for easily generating an income just by using adsense on a website.

It does take a lot of traffic.

People still make a boat load of money with adsense but they are highly trafficked sites not the kind of sites new webmasters have when starting out.

Your best bet starting out is to have a business model that pays decently for each conversion. That way even with low traffic you can make some money. Adsense money makers are higher volume traffic in most cases.

    Absolutely!

As a matter of fact, I recently really got into Adsense niche blogs about two months ago. I've had an Adsense account for the better part of 5 years now, and I've put it on some of my sites, but never really applied it. Still, it made me $200-$400 a year for the last few years and I only had it on 10 or 12 blogs. I know it isn't a lot, but passive income is passive income.

Anyhow about 2 months ago I decided to try some automated video niche blogs. I basically use the simple and easy WP TwentyTwelve theme with a plugin that pulls keyword relevant videos from YouTube and the official Google Adsense plugin that basically automates the Adsense installation (you can get this for free).

I really didn't expect these to do much, but the results are pretty surprising. I have one that is only a month old and is pulling 75-125 uniques per day from Google. Right now it has around 150 posts.

I think a lot of the success has to do with the keywords I'm targeting. I am going after keywords with 100-500 unique searches per month. Also, I have a keyword tool that pulls from the "autosearch" function on Google. In other words when you type a keyword into Google, you can see underneath that Google is also pulling up keywords that others have typed in related searches. The keyword software pulls these keywords and makes you a list. Sometimes you find quite a few keywords, sometimes you only get a few.

Once I get my list of keywords, I simply use my video poster plugin and tell it to pull videos with those keywords in the video title. Seems to be working pretty good. And it's simple. The good thing is that the plugin also pulls some of the video description and also will add the video comments to your blog, so this way you most likely will have the keywords in your post too.

Another thing that I think a lot of people don't realize is that there are some super valuable Adsense keywords. I'm talking keywords that can pay you upwards of $20 per click. If you can find those (or just get lucky), you would only need 1 or 2 clicks per day and that would be considered a very valuable blog. You could then flip it if you wanted or monetize it in other ways like with Amazon, Clickbank, etc.

So is there still money in Adsense? TONS.

    yes adsense is profitable..

You need to have top quality content to get your visitors in the first place, and play around with the ad locations to see which is the most effective..

Make sure that you read the TOS before you start, because there are quite a few restrictions, like you are not allowed to use it on a site that talks about making money online for example (know from personal mistake)

Can you STILL make money in adsense. I would believe YES

BUT here's the thing. Please, please, please diversify your income sources. I use to make gooood money with adsense several years ago. Like many others, I read a book about how to build websites and monetize them via google adsense. At first I sucked at it but got better.

Usually it comes down to several factors like:
    1. Choosing the right niche
    2. Making sure the niche has a good CPC
    3. Ad placement on your website
    4. Competition in terms of who you will be fighting against for the top spots in the SERPS (search engine results pages).
    5. Being consistent.

I think a lot of people don't make money with Adsense because the starting days, weeks and months can be brutal. I remember my first earnings day was like .23 cents..haha.. Yippe. But then as you scale and get better, more money tends to come in and I built up to several hundred per day. And flipped many sites as well.

My point is though, if you want to do adsense to start, cool. But don't get to comfortable with it because they CAN kick you out of their program for no apparent reason. And that's exactly what happened to me and left me short of thousands and thousands of bucks...hurts yes. But in a way it was my fault because I failed to diversify my income streams.

Hope that helps. If you have questions, send me a PM.

My story with Adsense is very similar.

Read an ebook or 2 about it and got started on a very small scale making pennies a day.

I kept creating more blogs and picking keywords with high CPC, sometimes getting paid 5 or 10 bucks for a single click.

It took about a year or more before I was making enough to pay my rent with Adsense income. Then the Penguin update came and ruined everything.

I then started using other income models, like Amazon, CPA, Clickbank, etc. on my blogs, and most importantly, started building a list of subscribers.

Yeah, I was definitely asking for trouble and the Google Penguin was glad to give me some trouble.

I had to learn my lesson the hard way, but at least I learned it.

Thanks for your reply. I'm building a site at the moment in a niche that I'm pretty knowledgeable in and I'm thinking about putting adsense on there when it's finished. I agree adsense needs a lot of traffic but I still think there's decent money to be made with it.

Yeah like I said it depends on the niche.

It doesn't hurt to have it on there at least to see what it pays for the traffic you get, but don't just stop there.

Maybe your niche may pay better by having affiliate banners instead of adsense or both may work well.

Another thing you should do is look at what other high traffic sites in your niche are doing for monetization.

ie: model your site after the authorities in your niche.

This is the basic formula for making (any) money with AdSense:

Traffic + CTR + Solid CPC = Money

In other words... if your website has enough traffic, people and clicking on your ads (CTR) and your content is related to keywords with high cost per click to advertiser (CPC)... you will make money.

  • If you looking for just basics than just go to udemy and buy a course, with good reviews, and that will give you great beginner tips.

However, if your looking for advanced training you wanna find products by experts like Perry Marshall, Ryan Deiss who have products on PPC.

This way you will learn more than simply watching some youtube video, for a tiny investment.
