To IM or Not IM, PLR or No Plr, That Is The Question.

Just wondering what people's views are on entering the IM niche (either general topics or more specialized or a particular topic or technique) - particularly using PLR as a quick route to market.

I'm weighing up the pros and cons. Some random thoughts:

Pro:
- I have knowledge in this area
- There's lots of PLR available
- There is a hungry market
- There are established channels to distribution, getting affiliates etc. (e.g JV Zoo, WSO)
- IM is always changing, so plenty of scope for repeat sales (although it does mean that many products will lose relevance)
- As a copywriter, I can certainly add value to any PLR, sales letters etc.

Con:
- There are a gazillion people doing this and the 'noise' level is high
- It may be hard to get visibility for a launch without being close to a well known marketer - i.e. to get access to 'the club'
- Some advertising channels are very difficult or not open to the "Make Money Online" market (e.g. Adwords)
- Good quality PLR is heavily promoted and so may be bought by many (including by affiliates who want to become product 'owners'/'creators' -> heavy competition)
- Some of the sales tactics (with over-the-top hypey copy, etc.) can be rather manipulative, maybe even unethical in some cases.
- Prospective customers are bombarded with so many offers every day that they may become cynical and require a significant amount of 'proof' (social or otherwise)

I'm just hesitating about getting into the market of selling shovels to people who are digging for gold (or think they would like to) with the whole "Buy my shovel now, it's the greatest shovel, I won't sell it to you next week..." thing.

On the other hand, I don't have a clear alternative 'real world' niche - or a real passion niche that can be monetised. Maybe joining the IM throngs *is* the way to go..?

I'd be interested in the views of others:

- views on IM market vs. others
- views on using PLR products in IM or other markets

Also, the specific question: For those without large lists, how sustainable is the 'product launch' model, compared with evergreen products (related to marketing or other subjects)? What does the sales vs. time curve look like for typical IM products, both during and after launch?

Cheers

PS None of the above is intended to be negative - I'm just trying to expand my thinking in a strategic way before proceeding. All contributions welcome.

It's probably the single commonest mistake that marketers make, and almost undoubtedly the biggest single reason underlying their collectively high failure-rate.

I think you've set out the "cons" out rather well, above.

I think you've overstated the "pros" a lot, though: some of those won't necessarily be "pros" at all.
