Examples Of Raw Data For Analytics

I've heard one of the downsides to Google Analytics is that it doesn't provide raw data. What exactly does this mean?

Would day-parting data be considered raw data? What would a software like Thrive or Voluum offer in regards to data that GA can't?

    outside analytics programs use scripts...usually java script to get their data.

    That comes with limitations.

    "raw analytics" can be found in your hosting control panel. programs like awstats and the like. Just look around your cpanel. They give you data at the server level. That means anything your server does gets logged there in some form or fashion.

    As far as the companies you link to. They are more about data interpretation and making sure you are tracking the right stuff than actually giving you more data that you can't get other places.

    many people don't really fully understand what they are tracking when they look at analytics numbers. They often find it hard to find the "meaning" behind the numbers as per how it relates to their marketing / design / and general business.

    thats more what the companies you mentioned do...interpret the data and give you actionable data...instead of just numbers.

      What about day-parting data? You can't get that from GA or your cPanel.

        Sure you can. That term is just referring to day or time of day stats. Both ga and the various cpanel raw stat programs offer such data.

        But again, Figuring out how to track and use that data effectively is much easier said than done. That's why the services you mentioned in your original post exist....they help make sense of it.

        The ga system has gotten fairly complex as far as what you can do with it. But making it do certain things in a way that actually gives you the data you think you are getting is not so straightforward.

    Getting ga to give you day parting data along with conversion tracking and goal tracking combined with traffic sources and search terms is not a simple thing to do really. But it has the capability to give you all those answers as even what search terms convert best at what times of day and even more complex than that.

    But getting it to give u you that data in a way that you can makes sense of and act on is not so simple.

      In other words, there is no tab to view what time of day your offer converted, right?

      If there is a way to do this, please provide a link.

      AWStats is just for traffic.

    Analytics and Voluum (or any other tracking software) are very different things and let you achieve different goals.
    Now, i came accross a service/software that let you integrate various type of analytic software (including GA). It's called segment (segment.com). You basically paste their javascript on your site and from their backend you can select the analytics services you'd like to use (kissmetrics, GA, Mixpanel etc..etc..). Once you've integrated the various services, you can then see which one of them provides you with the most relevant information and disconnect the irrelevant one.
    Segment let you also download your raw data if i am not mistaken

    Voluum (a competitor of trackingdesk) will let you manage campaigns mainly ppv/ppc but will not give you insights on your website traffic.

    You can PM me with more details in term of what you are trying to achieve and i can figure out what service is more suitable for your needs.

    Based on my experience with analytics..

    Google Analytics has been amazing for numeric data..

    However, my favourite option my far are services like..

    CrazyEgg or..
    DecibelInsights (Free)

    and there amazing data and analytics.
