Can you let me know what is the quickest way to promote your web site / blog and get the most results from it. I don't have time to study all the SEO nonsense, I just need some basic tips to get me started.

Do you have money to invest? In my experience, you're going to need time or money.

I can spend maybe $100 right now, to test it out. I don't need millions of hits, just couple thousand to start. Can I just supply it to google or something?

Without knowing more about the site... You could probably use it in Google Adwords and come away with +/- roughly 100 clicks to your site. But, if you don't know anything about Adwords and are unable/unwilling to learn you should probably save your $100 because you'll most likely throw it away.

I also agree with the social media suggestion, but since you don't have the time.. that's not going to be very possible.

What about Search Engine submission, should I make any changes to my site before submitting? Keywords, meta, title and such.

The quickest way to promote your web site is with paid advertising. I will caution you, as others have, that paid advertising (if you don't know what you're doing and don't care to take the time to learn) is also the quickest way to waste your money without getting good results.

I think the best thing you can do outside paid advertising is to find portal sites, authority sites, popular blogs, and other places where prospects in your niche are found, and try to put your site in front of them. You can do this with guest posting, guest articles, banners, freemiums, free products, and newsletter mailings. You may have to spend some money to do this, but if your content is highly relevant to these sites, full of value for the prospects in the niche, and offered for free (as content to these sites) you may just get a few invitations to add your content without cost.

Another quick marketing tactic that can give you an instant boost is press releases. Most people do them wrong (making them sound like a self-indulging advertisement) and as a result claim they don't work at all. If you do it right, and actually have something valuable to announce (your new site, or product, or blog), you can get tons of traffic in a very short time. This can be done for free; however, if you do paid releases at PRNewswire or PRWeb you will get much, much better distribution.

Good luck on your new business,

Hard for anyone to give you advice on that since we have no idea what your site is.

You don't need to know a niche to describe how to generate traffic. The actions don't change. What changes is the target audience and material you use to initiate communication.

You do; however, need to know what the site is to advise on: "should I make any changes to my site before submitting? Keywords, meta, title and such."
