Where to List/Sell Your Domain Names

It seems like every single day there is someone here asking where they can list/sell their domain names. Here is a list of marketplaces that allow free listings. Most will claim a small percentage of the sale only AFTER you have actually sold the domain. (Non-affiliation links).

This list is by no means all-inclusive. There are hundreds, if not thousands more. This list is a short list based on my experience.

Sedo
Afternic
FreeMarket
NamePros
DigitalPoint
DomainState
Twitter - DNMarket
FaceBook - Domain Name Marketplace
NameSlot
LinkedIn
AcornDomains
INforum - Indian Domain Industry
Aftermarket
Bido

I've heard good things about Empire Flippers even though I haven't personally used them myself.

I'll also add, that Gene taught me how to do Geo Domaining which can be lucrative if done right. I did it for a little bit but quite honestly got sidetracked with my other businesses and could no longer dedicate the time it

My last one I remember selling was IrvingOrthodontist.com. I bought it for .99 cents and sold it the very next day for $159. It was done thru Faxing and email . There are literally tens of thousands of these types of domains available.

I feel if you really put some work into it , it can be very profitable. No question.

While $159 is on the very low end of the scale, especially for that domain name, you can't sneeze at a quick $158 profit :-)

Another thing you can do is whilst you're waiting to get a sale of your domains is to cash in with "parked domains", where you can get paid some cash for showing ad content on your domain. Companies such as Sedo enable you to do this. So rather than your unused domain gathering dust, why not earn a bit of potential cash. Ok fair enough, might not be much, buts its better than nothing and it doesnt require any work on your part, just sign up with them and they'll most likely ask to set your DNS servers pointing to them and you're good to go.

The list in my original post is by no means a complete list. There are hundreds, if not thousands of other sites that will accept your listing for free. This list was just a short list based on my experience.

    Great list, Gene!

To anyone hoping to sell a Domain: use these sites as a backup plan. Gene provides you with a cracking list (great share, Gene). Just keep in mind that you're best bet, initially, is to make direct contact with end-users. This, of course, is only half the battle. First you need the perfect domain. But if you find it, selling becomes relatively simple. Imagine, for instance, that you own MiamiLawyer.com. If you approach someone who is A) a lawyer, B) lives in Miami, and C) is in the market for a domain, how hard is the selling? Not very.

So my preliminary advice to newcomers:

    1. Find the perfect domain.
    2. Approach the perfect end-users directly.
    3. Unload unsuccessful domains on the above sites.
