Web Scraping
Hi guys,
I work as a programmer in finance doing a lot of 'machine learning' analysis, especially with scraped web data.
E.g. I wrote a program that automatically goes to a local ecommerce website and downloads prices for 1000s of products. Over time we look at how those prices change and it's a remarkably useful measurement of inflation (which we then use in other parts of the business).
I've also done quite a lot of work automating email accounts e.g. whenever an email arrives in our 'research' inbox (we get ~300 emails a day with research reports and news on stocks), a program automatically identifies which company the email is about and calculates the 'sentiment' of the email by looking at the kinds of words used in the email.
I am not an internet marketer but my friend is and he suggested posting here for ideas on profitable uses of these kinds of techniques in IM.
I tried posting in the JV forum to see if someone wanted to work with me but I'm not a war room member so couldn't post there.
Any ideas on applications of web scraping / automation to make cash in IM would be much appreciated and so will any ideas on where to find someone to team up with for this kind of project.
