PayPal & Ebay Account Limited For Selling Too Much Too Quick - They Need Info

Hey guys,

So I have run a few ebay accounts in the past and it has always been fine, however this tome I have hit some decent sales faster than usual and they've limited both my PayPal and Ebay account until I send them some more information.

Photo Id, Proof Of Address, Another bank account deposit, and this is the stupid one... Proof that I own the item that I stock?

Now i'm not bothered about this, well a little bit because they have restricted my selling until they review the information. In fact it is actually quite refreshing to see that they have some sort of measure in place presumably to stop people listing a load of goods that they don't own and just running with the money.

Just that the only way I can prove that I own the item I am selling is to take a picture of a disc I sell and email it to them.

Anyone else ever experienced this?

Well, just send them the proof and you should be fine. There are many, many people who make a good living using eBay, so it's normal that they ask for proof that you are not a scammer. When you take the photo of your disc, maybe hold it near your face so they can compare it to your photo ID, just a thought

      Hi Slade,

Thanks for chiming in. I'm not worried about sending them the info I need it is just that it seems a bit silly asking for proof of my item.

I make the info disc my self, well order them in ready made in batches. I could just as easily take a picture of a blank disc with writing on it. This would show that I have discs, however it doesn't prove that they are actual stock.

      Thanks

Maybe you can physically send them a copy of your product? You could send it registered mail from your address and that would prove that the product was indeed sent from your own address. I would think that would be better than a photo. Neither way actually proves that you own the product you are selling. I'm not sure how you can actually prove that 100% in your case.

It also brings up another problem for those that are doing the whole Amazon arbitrage/drop shipping thing. How can they show a product that they don't actually have in their possession since they are ordering it from someone else once they sell one?

Does this mean that eBay/PayPal does not approve of drop shipping?

Some great points you raise there, you can send them invoices for any stock you have purchased which would probably help drop shippers. However in my situation the only thing I can do is send a photograph, records of purchasing discs and as you say a copy of the actual disc.

However it still seems a little silly.

I've done it now anyway so let's see what they say about it when their team review it.

It only seems silly because you are not scamming people by selling things that you do not have.
        Yes, it happens.

I had to send pay pal my ssn, my dl, my latest utility bill, my passport, and finally they unlocked me. This is a terrible company. Oh yes, and money pack went away. It takes now seven days for me to move money. Do you have sales information on how you hot all your products? I sure HOPE so. Good luck with that one.

I make them myself, then get the discs produced in batches for me. Hopefully they are not very fussy because there is not a lot I can show them with regards to my products.

Sorry buddy but that sentence ^^^ gives the impression that you may have been banned, blocked from doing business on eBay in the past for shady dealings?

Nope not at all. I like to keep certain things separate so I have multiple accounts.

For example I have one specifically for buying things.

You sound like the man. Who do you work for Ebay or the Government? Get out of here with that crap man.

There are plenty of DECENT payment processors like STRIPE with TEN TIMES the features and TEN TIMES LESS THE BULLSHI*T than paypal.

For example stripe will NEVER ask you that crap. The most they care about is your SSN and your website being live - other than that they dont mess with you.

I suggest you let the FREE ECONOMY work by voting with your wallet and taking your business elsewhere.

Anyone who suggests that you just "take your lumps cuz thats how society works" is either an ignorant fool who will never realize they are a slave to society or they are working for the man and purposely trying to enslave you with lies - either way, RUN.

USE your power (however small it may be) to VETO companies who do shit like this. YOU DO HAVE OPTIONS STILL - USE THEM.

If more people did that instead of just bending over and taking it with a smile then maybe paypal would get the point and stop fussking with sellers so much who are just starting out.

Oh, and anyone who tries to convince you that you won't sell as much stuff if you don't accept paypal is also clearly an idiot or living in the 90's.

You may lose out on 2% of sales by not accepting paypal - but those are the buyers you dont want anyway!!!

The truth is that if someone is not trustworthy enough to pull out their C.C. and use it (without their precious paypal protection) then they are most likely already planning to refund it and get your product free... especially if they DEMAND to pay with paypal saying "that is the only way they can pay" or that "they dont have a c.c." - it's a lie! Paypal has their c.c. info on file... They are only trying to take advantage of the fact that paypal 99% of the time sides with the buyer in a dispute. (you think paypal users dont know this by now?)

To prove this I recently launched a WSO and had many people ask for paypal button. I told every single one that i dont take paypal but use stripe and it's just as secure. Out of about 10 who asked for paypal, only 1 didnt buy when i refused to offer paypal as an option - the other 9 went ahead and bought anyway using stripe.

So by NOT accepting paypal you are not missing out on anything!! Anyone who refuses to buy your product unless you accept paypal is probably not a customer you want anyway.

Did youknow that when you log into your paypal account there is a link to "Contact" them. Pick up the phone and give them a call. Over the years I have had problems that need resolution and every time I called my problem was solved in minutes.

Communication is the key, and make sure you have a business account and not a personal account.

I agree with this. It would have been the first thing I did. Pick up the phone and ask them what exactly they want. My dealings with them have always been good. Like agmccall, every time I have had to talk to them, my issue was taken care of in minutes.

This is why we should all stop using paypal at once so they can die.

Trust me this wont be the end of your problems with them no matter how much you cooperate.

What PayPal is looking for in proving that the product is yours is that you are not pirating any one else's content or software on that disc. You need to show that you are the creator of the disc content or you have purchased rights to sell the content on the disc.

This is what you need to show PayPal.

    Best regards,

Rather than a photo of the item, a copy of the invoice from your manufacturer would have been more appropriate. A photo of the item only proves possession - not ownership.
