I have been running an ecommerce business supplying some kind of packaging. I haven't made any sales in the past 2 months despite running a campaign in adwords and lost $250 dollars in advertising there.

Then moved on to try Facebook trying to collect emails and have had 6 subscribers after spending $60 dollars. Facebook seemed more promising however expensive for me. I am literally penniless.

The reason why I ended uplosing money was testing ie landing pages, web colours, buttons etc.

I have also tried Ebay and Amazon but competition is stiff and the commission charges at 10% are way too high.

Trying videos however paying around $50 a month- again money going out.

I also spend about $30 on articles, website troubleshooting. So far have about 5 articles on blog.

I lspend 40 hours working but for nothing.

What can I do without spending any more?

Quitting or trying something else- but what?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but you're talking about your product as if you don't really know what you're attempting to sell.

More details on the product might get you more tailored answers.

    Just my thinking,

Gag me....you shoud learn from your mistake....too cheap to pay for an ad or banner so you jump around like a jelly bean to ask people to look at your sig gag me. It is 2015 - anyone can set up a cheap classified site with a free script. I am sick of seeing your crap on various threads.

Maybe what you're selling isn't needed?

Tho, $60 in Facebook ads is hardly enough to come to any statistically significant conclusions - so, maybe, you didn't test enough - or, what you did test, wasn't any good.

Also, it seems like you're flipping between advertising (google, facebook, videos, content marketing, etc) WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too frequently to actually get "good" at one of them.

Focus on one medium before moving all over the place.

    Hi 2011,

Use free marketing methods to learn your niche inside out.

Well, not entirely free ....as buying a domain and hosting - for blogging - will set you back about $100 or so for the year. BUT, learning blogging, social media, and list building with a free provider like MailChimp inspires you to get your niche down pat. Or, to know your stuff. Once you know your stuff, you'll cease measuring success on a month to month basis, you'll start making money - over months - and you'll create value and build bonds, doing the things all inspired online entrepreneurs do.

    Keep on keeping on!

      Its packaging boxes for food.

With hip hopping I did try Google Adwords for quite some time before moving to Facebook. PPC with Adwords is extremely expensive. The more I paid the more I would get impressions and clicks and vice versa.

As for email, I am using Getresponse and paying them £5 a month.I started using this alongside Facebook ads for list building.

Videos- I thought I would use these to stand out and for content generation. The main reason I have been content creating alongside has been for SEO purposes with a view of decreasing the cost of PPC advertising.

Can you be more specific than "supplying some kind of packaging"? That would assist in generating some useful ideas to help you.

6 subscribers out of $60 spent, is really low, $10 subscriber is very high unless you are selling +$1000 products

Try ranking for that keyword, looks like you haven't got anything from adwords, also search on business forums and what other mentors will say on your product.

I was just reading you spent $60 and gained 6 subscribers on facebook, I'm thinking is facebook a good target for a product such as Packing boxes? For this type of product I would try PPC or even advertise on Ok adwords is expensive, but you got alternatives like 7search, and bing is apparently now what adwords used to be, cheap.

I take it you are from the UK? I market my offline business on Gumtree for free. Packaging sounds more Business to Business though so a basic website and traffic from business forums may be a better bet.

If you cannot make any money at all selling on Ebay I suspect that you are trying to work with too small a margin. If that is so in your position I would sell my stock at cost and start again.

The most important thing though is to stop spending money!

JMO I think you need to target biz to biz. Don't listen to any troll here who will tell you to "use the method in my sig" etc.

You should get a professional website. Make sure you are listed on all pertinent directories, Manta etc.

Use the power of Linkedin. Put together a good profile, get a background cover with logo, pic of products. Set up a company page, join groups get connections

Set up a personal facebook page and get many friends...set up a professional business page - and you can also start a group and put people who are your friends into the group Make pertinent helpful posts about packaging trends, industry news, with some other info and /or fun stuff

Brand yourself - all your stuff should have same logo, colors
You could put your pics of packaging on pinterest and instagram and youtube

Any advertising should be focused to businesses that might use you.
Stop the scattershot junk - focus. Build relationships. Pick a niche that really could use your product and focus

Hope this helps - and as you can see I am not pushing any crap in my sig <grin>

      Totally agree, good stuff Freebiequeen!

You keep talking about Adwords, Facebook, articles, and videos but what about actual human contact? Or direct communication with your target audience?

Your selling packaging man! Who the hell goes on Facebook and goes, "hmm thoses are some cool boxes! Think I'll buy 20." Absolutely no one! This is why you need to start thinking B2B

Your Selling food boxes right? How about you get in contact with the people who will benefit the most from your product? You have to be targeting food banks, restaurants, businesses, hotels, or whoever is benefiting the most from what you're selling. Call them up, walk in and talk to the owner, go to a trade show, go to a networking event, email them, or mail them.

Running a few online promotions is hardly enough.
