SME = subject matter expert

I'm wondering what kind of subject matter experts we have here. Most specifically people NOT saying they have some kind of IM expertise.

I'm talking about SMEs in what we IMers call niches.

As an example I have significant subject matter expertise in firearms. I'm also fascinated by a scientific explanation for origination of life and so I have significant expertise in microbiology and biological chemistry.

I am gaining a lot of expertise in the executive aircraft space as well. Now I don't do business in those niches (well, yet. getting into this one this year most likely) but that doesn't mean I don't have a lot of knowledge about them.

What kind of SME are you? Just wondering what our WF community "looks like" besides the IM stuff all the time.

I actually drifted between Wyoming and Colorado in the 90s. I have friends in Ft Collins and Colorado Springs.

I'm not allowed back into Wyoming...

For me it's music. I come from a musical family and have been a singer-songwriter for about 24 years. I also have a background in audio engineering/production.

Have you done any work for anyone we might know? Or has it been on the radio side of the house?

Actually SME has been around since I started as a network admin and it has been used in multiple companies that I've worked in.

So I'm not trying to "create" anything ... since the acronym already existed.

The acronym SME has indeed been around for some time. But it has generally been taken to mean small and medium- sized enterprises.

Seems a bit tautologous to call someone a subject matter expert. Wouldn't that just be an "expert"?

I was a sous chef for a number of years, a "semi-pro" drummer for over 15, and an IT engineering consultant (SME) for Microsoft AD, Exchange Messaging and Collaboration (Instant Messaging) infrastructures for nearly two decades now. I've worked on some of the largest infrastructures out there. I've got quite a number of varied "skills" when it comes to computer tech and software. Oh...and I know far too much about "construction".

I'm just an all around computer geek, I don't really consider myself a subject matter expert in any area, I guess I'm more of a jack of all trades and if I have an issue, i figure out how to deal with it

    Hi Mate,
I'm not a SME but there's a lot of users who are interested in this. You can try to find out them.
    Thanks.

SME is used in lots of places. I worked in a call centre where it was used.

Anyway, although I can write on many different topics, and have done so, I consider myself an SME in the health niche, especially anything related to diabetes. I have written over 1000 articles just on diabetes.
I also have diabetes myself so I can use personal knowledge.

I honestly had to study money. Like lottery winners going from winners to in debt...we really have to get into our own heads about our unconscious views on money in order to master it.

In my offline life I know quite a bit about restoring classic cars, hot rod building and custom bikes/choppers, my everyday cars are a 1964 Impala and a 1955 Chevy truck. Many people ask me why I don't work on cars as my job..
    2 reasons:
I don't want to work for someone else putting new fenders and bumpers on minivans in an auto body shop, That would just be yet another 9-5 that I ended up hating. Thats like asking someone who paints portraits or landscapes why theyre not a house painter because they like to paint lol. I would love to do custom work on my own/own a custom shop but getting into that is VERY expensive.

Actually ,that's what led me to online marketing in the first place, and it's still what I'm working towards... I want to set up a few passive or semi-passive income streams that can pay my bills and give me a buffer zone so I can concentrate on my true passion of starting my own custom bike shop.

I thought you were going to say "Social Marketing Expert". But now that i see what the real meaning of SME is, my answer is simple.

My greatest skill online is creating ebooks, and selling them. No matter the niche - or how odd the topic is. This is a skill that i've went to create a consulting business after. This is something that i am truly gifted at.
