How To Save All Of Your Old Favorite Threads

by Chris Hunter 9 replies
I just did this and figured it'd help a lot of folks. I have saved a lot of WF threads to my favorite bookmarks in my Firefox browser and now that the forum is moving here, I decided it was time to save all of those old pages somehow, especially since I can't access some of them any more!

So, here's what I did:

Go to http://www.htm2pdf.co.uk/ and add the bookmarklet to your toolbar. This makes it all a lot faster. You could just flip back and forth to different windows if you don't want to do that.

Next, go to your favorites in your bookmarks and pull up your old Warrior Forum pages that you saved.

Then, click on the http://www.htm2pdf.co.uk/ bookmarklet at the top of your browser and save the newly generated Download PDF link on the new page!

Something else that I do is copy the title of the thread and before I save the PDF file, I change the name of the file to the thread title and if there are several pages to the thread, I save the additional pages with the same file name (which is the thread title) and add an 01 or 02, etc., to the end of thee file name.

Of course, I did create a new folder just for all of this as well, so all of the PDFs are in their own folder.

Hope it helps!

Hmmm, good point. I've been bookmarking threads for some time. I guess I should go convert them all to PDF format to make sure I have copies of them in the future.

    Thanks for the heads up.

If you are having problems accessing some of your old bookmarks, look in the url and see if it has a ARCHIVE=TRUE. If so try and remove this and see if it loads. All posts should be available but we unarchived all topics.

      Brad,

I guess the ones that I'm trying to access were removed from the board. None of them have the ARCHIVE=TRUE phrase in the URL.

      No biggie, but thanks!

An example thread is this one - http://www.warriorforum.com/forum/to...OPIC_ID=254189

Can't access it. Guess it was deleted.

        This sucks.

I saved literally over a hundred threads and enjoyed reading them, and pulling them up when I needed to check something. i really really hope there is an easier way of getting them back without having to do what is described in this post. My firefox nearly crashes my computer every time I run it, and I don't have time for the faff.

James, I'm using a different one now but I don't know what it is because I'm no at my PC. Just google "HTML to PDF convertor" and you'll get tons of choices, including some that have bookmarklets you can drag to your toolbar.

I'll try to post the one I now use later.
