Newspaper Advertising - What's The Best Day?

Okay,

so we all know Tuesday/Wednesday is the best
time of the week to send out an ONLINE message.

But what about an OFFLINE message in the classifieds
section of a newspaper?

Do you feel the same psychology behind Tuesday online
still holds true for offline?

Weekends ONLY for me. I got terrible results from M-F events in the classifieds section.

However, keep in mind that advertising in the Business Area on Mondays is good...but that's venturing into non-classifieds and into real ads.

Give CraigsList a try for selling a vehicle. I just recently helped my folks sell a boat and a car on CL -- boom, gone in about 48 hours. I placed the ads Friday night and the phone started ringing Saturday morning.

    Cheers,

      Ah-HAH...

This now makes me wonder if there's been
testing done on the best days to advertise
vehicles on Craigslist (I'm sure there has).

It also makes me wonder if the weekends
are best for Craigslist (along with newspaper)
      ads as well.

This is interesting...the days people recommend
you send your ads (for anything).

My eMail Marketing Software (by Interspire) that
I used to use recommended Tuesdays were proven
the most effective days to send an eMail.

It's interesting to me the psychology behind the
reasons why these statistics are so. Furthermore,
not only does it interest me why this is ONLINE,
but OFFLINE (i.e. newspapers) as well.

I sold my last car (1994 Honda Civic HB) via eBay. It was a pretty damn good experience.

I shot movies, took tons of pics and get a buyer within days. Plus, you can ship cars nationwide for ~$400 with some delivery services.

I've sold other physical items on CL before. Because I live in a rural area, folks will drive an hour or two to buy what I'm selling. So, in my case it makes sense to advertise for the weekend (since most people probably don't want to make a two to four hour round trip drive on some week night after work -- they have more time for that kind of thing on the weekend).

    Cheers,
    Becky

The Sunday paper is usually the best day to place a classified ad in a newspaper. Sunday is also the most expensive day and because of this the newspaper will likely offer you a promotion to that included additional days with the ad rate for Sunday.

In my experience I would put them in this order starting with the best.

    1. ebay
    2. newspaper
    3. craigslist

When I used to flip cars I had the best luck with ebay. I will agree with the others that the weekends are probably the best time to advertise in the newspaper. During the week will be a lot of guys that are in the business trying to pick up the car for a song. Craigslist is free but you get so many people wasting your time. I had the best results with ending my ebay listings on Sunday. Just watch for those guys that bid on your car that have 0 feedback and they just registered, I found everyone to be a deadbeat bidder/scammer.
