Generating auto & home insurance leads

I have an insurance agency in Michigan and I have bought auto & home insurance leads in the past. They are very expensive to purchase and you fight with so many other agents and carriers for the same business. I currently use ppc and seo to generate leads and am doing ok at generating some leads, but when you buy leads you can specify some pretty strict filters and even narrow down to a specific zip code and they still seem to be able to deliver huge quantities of leads. How do they do it? I would be happy to get my average up to 10 leads per day and have the filter simply be that they are currently insured.

I appreciate any input and ideas!

I don't know for sure, but my best guess would be they are aggregators of lots of lead gen sites, or direct mail campaigns, or TV ad spots. It is also possible that they provide leads from PPC ads from lower tier networks.

  • NICE, Jayson L! I love that you're being so proactive and learning about how to generate your OWN leads! Very few business owners do that sort of thing.

I'm on the other side - I have a client SEO business and also do a lot of pay-per-lead stuff as well. It definitely pays to have some SEO know-how but it sounds like you're a smart guy and you've already got a decent foundation in that.

I wanted to get more discussion around PPL going, so I started a group on Facebook that's all about that - it is mostly people trying to sell leads to businesses, but I'm sure you could learn some things about generating more of your own leads too. If you post your question there, you'll definitely get a lot of responses. Just search "Passive & Massive" & you'll find us - 1700+ members strong!

Hope to see you there brother!

Even though as a SEO I love SEO and the web I doubt that they are getting these kinds of specialized drilled down leads through lead gen sites. I think it is more likely they are buying existing customer data from companies that have permission to sell the data.

You can do various things to generate leads like online polls etc but if it takes too much time away from your core business its probably better to beef up your SEO to catch more leads and where specialized pay for the leads.

You can build a car to not have to pay for each trip on the city bus but the time it takes is often not worth it if you have other core activities to do .

I'm not sure about in the states but in Europe the insurance companies sell the data of past applicants and customers. I'd imagine it'll be the same business model especially if you can drill down to rating factors.

To get more leads could you jv with estate agents? I assume you already cross sell and chase past applicants.
