eLance, iWriter, Odesk, Warriors for Hire. Post a link in your sig, pay for a classified ad... or take it to the extreme, and start writing eBooks, Kindle books, or if you're really savvy, head towards Copywriting and Ad Copy gigs.

Thank you for all of your suggestions. Which one of them do you suggest? I plan on writing some short stories for the Kindle. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

If I were a writer, I'd lean toward copywriting. This week I paid $240 for just over 4,000 words (5 articles); whereas I paid $250 to rewrite a sales copy that turned out to be 550 words.

It is definitely possible to just to short story writing for kindle online for money.

However if you want consistent income you are going to have to diversify your portfolio a bit more at least to do regular article writing or non-fiction ebook writing

    With that said:

    odesk
    freelancer
    elance

Are good places to start for fiction writing.

Well it depends on your circumstances. I started looking for ways to monetize my writing passions, and got consumed in learning every internet marketing method out there practically. When I began, I had zero tech skills, barely knew how to use email, lol.

However, if you need money now. Write articles on any of the sites mentioned above or offer up services here. If your ok financially, and have some time to research, then start with choosing a niche market, start a blog, and start affiliate marketing. Write informative articles, product reviews, and link to or direct traffic to your chosen affiliate offers. If you go this route, there is a learning curve that includes 'building a list, cultivating that list with email follow-ups, and having the pieces in order to effectively market to your chosen niche audience.

What you'll find are 3 HUGE means of making money from your writings are article marketing/syndication, copywriting or ad copy, and email marketing... as they are all written forms of marketing. Then of course creating your own products. (*Training courses, eBooks, Kindle Books, PLR, email campaigns, etc...) - which you generally need to have the marketing knowledge to back your efforts.

I personally opted for writing reviews, and creating content on my own domains. hosting, websites, and a few free web properties. Didn't make much as first, but as time denotes, many of my earliest efforts still produce sales from review articles and pieces I wrote 4 years ago. (*I actually wish I had done more back then, lol)

Leaning more towards utilizing all the knowledge I've collected over the years to start creating products, and building more long-term content based websites.

But, if I could choose only one, I'd go with affiliate promotions through article marketing and writing reviews on new and proven products and services. Pays better in the long haul, then writing other peoples content for them to bank off of your work.

The best way to make money as a freelance writer: create your own writing jobs; don't wait for them to become available and bid on them. If you have a gift for writing, this is a valuable commodity. Sell the commodity the same way you would anything of value.

There's plenty of blogs that need a staff writer. I did this many moons ago for a sports site.

I approached saying I love your blog - can I write a post? (for free). It impressed and from then on I received $10-$20 an article, writing one most days from the back of the university lecture ;-) Handy beer money.

Good luck. Don't be afraid to ask.

I have been writing on Fiverr. I want more work. I'm also trying to find work that pays more. I've thought about making my own sites. I haven't been able to figure out what niche would be profitable. The money making part is what I don't understand about it. I've never been good at it.

That's the part most people don't understand...any niche can be highly profitable if you know how to monetize it. Name anything that interests you...anything...and there will be people out there trying to learn about that genre. So just pick one thing, think about what people reading that content would want/need to buy, and then give them lots of great information so they'll visit your site instead of somewhere else. That's the whole secret to Internet Marketing.

And if that doesn't give you enough info about the money making part, then that's perfectly okay. Don't put off building your site though and starting to get great information up for people to find. Because even the biggest sites around focused on core content before they tried to monetize (Google+, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). There's nothing at all wrong with that, as long as you realize that you'll learn far more by DOING SOMETHING than sitting back and waiting for the perfect idea to come along. So don't wait...make a site and get to typing.

If you're into blogging, Problogger.net has a jobs board where you can find various blogging gigs. Another way to make money with articles is through Constant Content. You can write on any topic, set your own prices, and sell articles. People also post their content needs there as well.
