how to monetize music

i have a freind very talent making hip hop beats
can i monetize hes music on youtube? soundcloud traffic etc.

    Model the successful people already out there doing what you want to do ... use their business model, price points etc.

    Youtube is for watching videos, if your friend is making only music, then youtube is not for you. Heard about Soundcloud, but not making money from it.
    For driving traffic soundcloud may be useful and not much for monetizing. I suggest to you build a site or blog to post those music on your blog and then these social networks.
    If people comes to your site or blog then you will be making money.

      Youtube is good for music, however with Hip Hop I'm not sure if he'd need to put any precautions into the music to stop people easily stealing it (like adding an announcement every 30 seconds etc..)

      If he is to put it on youtube, have something good visually to back it up.
      Rock bands I know throw up lyrics video or pretty interesting video loops that are promoting an album, tour etc.. (a fiver gig may do this.. )

      It's worth a shot, Youtube's music base is much larger to soundcloud
