Do most people simply regurgitate others work online??

My question is as above really.

I see lots of people pop up with their name as a domain, calling themselves gurus or whatever..'teaching' people how to make money online. Over time I seem to notice that content seems to reappear on others websites, almost identical if not identical!

Are people simply taking content from others sites and setting themselves up? I imagine the person whose site was copied may never see the other site as the web is huge and they might just market themselves away from the mainstream sites?

I have had at least 2 of my unique content pages copied literally and passed off as others. Thing is it didnt bother me too much as if i hadnt found it then it would not have affected what i was doing.

I am all for getting some inspiration from others, or seeing what others are doing and trying to do it better, but this is a bit different to me.

Any thoughts on this? or has this always been going on in this game?

Alan

It can be one of two things- either that "guru" is re-branding himself over and over again to increase his odds of being found, or the "guru" happened to buy the same "get rich" eBook that thousands of others did and he's copying the course word for word. Either way though, it does not scream success to me.

The bigger issue is about your content being copied and posted elsewhere. Did you send a cease and desist letter? Did you threaten legal action? Because plagiarism is a crime and even though it happens daily in cyberspace, that doesn't mean it's okay to do. Defend your work and make the bad people pay for the crime they committed.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The content i had taken was something fairly specific, and also put it on squidoo so it was viewed quite a lot - and taken lol! Didnt even consider threatening them with legal or even contacting them as it just seems so easy to take and seems to be coming more commonplace as i say. They could have at least put it through some sort of spinner first though the cheeky gits

Yes, this seems to be more of an emerging business model nowadays and I guess that it is a fairly simple one providing they stay away from places they have stolen from (ie here!) and promote on whatever social media they choose.

Yeah, there is no excuse for copying at all. As far as getting ideas from others and using others' work and putting it in your own spin ? ...well people have been ethically doing it for thousands of years on this planet

    Thats a fact

^ I agree. Putting a new spin on someone's idea is something that's done to death and, frankly, I don't see the downside. But copying ideas and passing them as your own, well, that's a big NO NO in my book!

It could be PLR. A lot of people brand it as their own.

Yes. And even 'unique' stuff is mostly just rewritten content. There are only so many original ideas floating around.

Have to agree with others here. Copying word for word is just going to lead you into trouble in the future. However, many people sign up for the same courses 1000s of people at a time being told how to sell some thing with the exact same mind map that IM is using. With that being said you will aslways see very similar products and sales pitches being produced by courses like that. If there is a proven system why not duplicate it yourself with your spin on it.

I find for myself that every IM "guru" has the same story. I was broke, in massive debt, couldn't feed my family, etc then BAM I discovered this one secret tip that other marketers won't tell you and I was able to get myself out of the whole and was making over 10K a month quick.

I mean sure this happens to people a lot because they can appeal to your direct situation. As many people fall into the trap of looking for the "next best thing" and thus put themselves further into debt.

So you see very similar stories all of the time.

"most" is a very arbitrary statistical measurement, but i would certainly say that most infarct do regurgitate a large percentage of their content.

People get sucked into the MMO niche and the gurus teach them to make money by selling their products as affiliates (go figure why they would do that).

but in order to do that, they need traffic in the MMO niche, and there isn't much way to get some of that without content if you don't have an advertising budget.

And if you haven't made money online then where are you going to get content that tells others how to make money online...you almost gotta steal... i mean borrow it...lol

lots of fake it until you make it guys in that niche. In the real world, thats much harder to do because the barrier to entry is so much higher.

but online, thats much different. Things like optimize press, make it possible for a guy in a public library to create pretty much the same level of squeeze page as a guy making 7 figures a year.

give me $100 and i dare say you couldn't tell whether i was really a MMO guru or just started last week.
