YouTube's New AutoPlay Feature

I noticed Youtube now has an AutoPlay feature which is defaulted to 'on' when watching a video, so that after your first video is finished, in a few seconds, it starts to play the next featured video. And I think this just happens with on YouTube.com, but don't know for sure.

Do you think Youtube is showing the next closely matched related video? Or, another popular video that is somewhat related? Or, the newest trending video that is somewhat related?

Also, I suspect this may increase views for some videos, but I wonder if this feature will skew the views/retention results because some people will just get distracted and let it play without really watching it.

Your thoughts? Or, any experience with how this is really working or affecting YouTube views?

    It seems to play the next video from the list on YouTube.

    I'm guessing it won't help people who were getting clicks from the suggested videos list but they still seem to be showing in a grid on embedded videos.

    Personally not a fan of the idea and have switched it off.

    The autoplay trend (Yahoo, elsewhere) IMHO is to increase time spent on a page. Partly the result of the factor being important for SEO.

    It's also a huge pain in the butt to visit a site and immediately have audio blaring out. Some sites with multiple videos play them both at the same time. I'm testing surfing with an outdated Adobe flash plugin so video won't play unless I click to allow it.

    I hadn't noticed the autoplay when embedded on a wordpress site, but this may be because I use a plugin to remove some of the Youtube features.
