Where to Sell Domain Names

Hi, I was wondering where you guys successfully sell your domain names. I know of places like Flippa, ebay, godaddy, sedo, ect, ect, but sometimes you have to get their upsell packages which can be lke $250 or more just so that you can get some more exposure. Im getting views with just a standard listing but its very slow views coming in.

You have plenty of options. I'll give you 3 great ones, none of which cost money.

    1. Contact potential end-users via email.
    2. Forums. (EX: NamePros.com).
    3. Social networks.

    All the best,

    Tom

      Hi Tom,

I always find your reply very helpful.

When you say contact potential end-users via email, how do you get their emails? and how do you build your list of potential buyers? Would you mind sharing it? I have few hundred domains and tried emailing/contacting other keyword related domains but never had a luck, maybe my email is not that attractive or my domain really doesn't interest them. Would you mind directing me a way to approach potential buyers?

      Thanks in advance!
      Angelo

Thanks for the compliment, Angelo; I appreciate it.

A few hundred domains? Great stuff! I can give you a couple of killer ways to find end-users. I say any more and my students will string me up and flog me! LOL

        1. Google Sourcing
        2. Extension Sourcing.

        1.

Type the keyword of a domain into google. You may notice ad boxes on the right. The people are paying good money to receive traffic from the keyword that you own. In other words, they've signalled a financial interest in your keyword. That makes them a strong potential buyer.

Organics. For the same keyword, check out the organic listings. It costs us money and time to get ranked and there's a strong possibility the people behind those websites have expended both. Strong potentials.

Head over to each of the relevant websites and find contact details or just do a whois on them. Email each one a unique email, a personalized email.

        2.

If you own PinkFluffyCoolWidgets.com, quite often you'll find that people own that same keyword, but for different extensions: PinkFluffyCoolWidgets.net, PinkFluffyCoolWidgets.co.uk, and so forth. Strong potentials. Give 'em an email.

I can't really say too much more on the topic here, but your post to me was very nice and I hope I've at least helped you a little bit. The very best of luck to you!

As usual great content Tom! I have done that few times, but probably no luck with my emails. Is it better to create an email using that domain or a personal gmail account would do? Is there such a thing as an email template that can catch the attention of the potential buyer? I'm reading few threads here that the most successful way to sell domains is to approach potential customers based from your answer and based from Gene but is there a secret recipe sales letter that we can purchase or use? I actually bought some of my domains because:
          1. My keyword/s have match to an existing business aka Google Sourcing - but i never paid attention to the paid ads that you have mention on your reply - Great tip!, I'm only focusing on organic results.
          2. Extension sourcing - same as your explanation, one good example of this is one of my domain, endpointsecurity dot net, the .com .org .info .biz was owned by big anti virus and IT security companies, that's the main reason i bought it, but approaching them is out of my league, i actually don't know how to do that. I'm planning to put a Domain for Sale landing page on my site just in case they landed on my page for unknown reason. But still it's not easy to know who to contact for companies that are big.
          3. Previously I also buy high PR domains which i put content and flip it - i don't do this anymore.

Once again thank you Tom for answering my question.

Views coming in one and twos right? That's the thing I don't like on Flippa and Sedo..But that's how they do business and make money.. You have to get some upgrade package in order to get more attention from buyers...Sometimes even though the domain name is so strong and premium, the perfect buyer don't get attention to the domain and the seller can't make a sale in auction...There are plethora of domains on Flippa and Sedo...If you think, you have a great domain that can bring xxx or xxxx amount, you can feature your domain on homepage.... IMO.

BTW, I am noob in domaining, perhaps Tom, Gene can help you more...they are masters.

At Tom said, contacting potential buyers directly is the most effective way, but you can also get a lot of exposure by listing your domains at many free listing sites:

Advertise on Facebook and other social sharing sites. Above all Flippa is the best to buy and sale your domain.

Spread across the internet where the target customer is prevailing. And apart from those, Flippa is another good option to be considered for.
