How do I Create a PDF file from a Word Doc?

Hi

I have a word doc that I want to convert to PDF format. I've opened it with Open Office and chosen Export as PDF doc but it goes into some sort of encryption.

I've done this successfully many times in the past but can't seem to do it right this time.

Can someone tell me how I should be doing it?

Mary, go to e-bay and type in PDF program. I did this and got a very cheap (about $7) program that not only converts the Open Office document to PDF but creates free book covers and a whole heap more. Otherise you can waste a lot of time and end up with a very amateurish effort. Check out my sig to see one or two of my books created in this fashion.

Download OpenOffice from OpenOffice.org - it's free

It allows you to convert word document to pdf.

I use PrimoPDF it is so easy and it's free. I hope that helps.

  If you read she opened it with Open Office
  
  Go to File
  Export to Pdf
  Export
  and it will do it automatically for you.
  
  If you want security on the file, then select security and follow instructions

  Try closing everything and reboot your computer.
  
  Also, if you have the newest version of word or word office, you might have to save the word document as an older version...should be under the save as options.
  
  Then open that document with open office and convert to pdf.

Free PDF Creator - Convert to PDF from Any File You Can Print - PrimoPDF is the best by far and it's free!. I use it all the time. When you've created your word document you simply select print as normal and instead of slecting your printer and option is available to print to PDF, which basically means it will create a PDF document, that you can then save and email

  There are a lot of PDF writer drivers you can download from download.com or zdnet.com. PDF drivers are virtual drivers which save the document to a PDF. Some PDF printer drivers also need Postscript printer drivers. You can either use those which came with the Windows installer or, again, download the Postscript drivers.

  Thanks everyone. I've already been opening it with Open Office and exporting it to PDF but it hasn't been successful.
