Product Creation Question

I'm not ready to create my own product yet, but in doing a lot of research in my niche I can foresee a time down the road when I will want to create my own information product. One of the things I wonder about though is the best way to package your product. Would it be best to create one big product that covers all of the topics in your niche, or break up your material and create separate products covering the different topics?

For example, in the make money niche there are products/courses that are suppose to show you everything you need to know, every step (full system/blueprint). Those are examples of products that combine everything into one package. Or at least they claim too (I know they seem to always leave some things out).

Likewise there are also products/courses in the make money niche that are only intended to teach you one aspect such as a course on SEO, or a course on Facebook marketing.

In the dating tips for men niche there are full system/courses as well that are suppose to teach you every step involved in the process of picking up women. And there are also product that only teach you one aspect of picking woman such as a product on how to make women laugh.

I saw this woman's law of attraction blog the other day and she had her own products (ebooks). Instead of just writing one book that covers all topics, she had one book about how to manifest money, one book about how to manifest love/relationships, a 2 or 3 other books about how to manifest other things as well.

I'm not sure if it's smarter to break up your material in to multiple products/topics like that or not. On one hand it's easy to think that you could make more money if you have multiple products. But, I think it could also make you look like one of those people who are just trying to churn out one low quality product after another in an attempt to make a bunch of money. I don't know about anyone else, but when I see someone with multiple products like that, it makes me wonder about the quality of their products. It makes me think that they probably suck.

So what do you think, is it best to create a complete full system/course (one product), or break your material up into multiple products covering the different aspects/topics?

Break it up into a series and tie it to an email collection system. Why? You step the reader through the KNOW-LIKE-TRUST buying process. Most rookie marketers think people will TRUST them the moment they get eyeballs in front of their landing page... WRONG.

  • To answer your original question, it all depends on the main niche that you are on.

For example, in the relationship niche, there is only one main niche, which is usually saving a marriage or trying to get an ex back, for example. You should stick to making one big product for those niches.

However, for the make money online niche, the reason why you would see product sellers selling more than one product is that usually people only want a single answer to their single question.

Even if I made a HUGE product about making money from all kinds of ideas, the majority of people only really want to focus on one thing - SEO, affiliate marketing, Teespring..... This is why you would never see somebody in the MMO niche just release everything on a single product. It isn't just a "money" thing. It may make me more money, but I am really just giving people what they want; a focus oriented product on a single topic to answer their main question, regardless on whether it is in SEO or YouTube.

There are other niches that involve focusing on creating a single product, but it all depends on the niche itself.

Personally I prefer the smaller bite size approach.

It is possible to overwhelm people plus I have learned that it is better to sell 1 thing at a time.

I'd say break it down if you are covering a wide topic so that you can slowly transition people to buy, gain some trust on you and your product first and then buying more from you to cover other advance topics.

One of the basic principles of information marketing is solve a problem.
Pick a problem and create an info product solving that problem.

The trick is knowing which individual problems people will pay to have solved vs which problems people want more info or courses on. The two aren't always the same.

I like the idea of breaking it up into smaller bite size pieces priced at say, $7 to $9 dollars each. This method has been proven to work very well.

Imagine having an authority site with 10 of these products to choose from. these 10 products could easily be the ten steps necessary to solve a problem or need in your niche.

You could also put these ten products together later on and sell it at a higher, discounted price ($7+).
