Do what you REALLY love and you'll never work even a day in your entire life!

Give enough people what THEY want and you'll get all that YOU want in life.

As a marketing principal I would say test small.

Specifically within the 'IM' niche then I'd say dont pay any attention to what they say but watch what they do.

I think the best tip was "Leverage social media". It completely changes the way I do my work!

Don't make marketing decisions based on what you would do if you were in your buyers' positions. Most people – non-marketers – don't think the way you do.

When it comes to self-assessing your ideas, sales page copy, website elements used, etc. – you have to view them as if you were an average person and not a marketer.

Oh, you're in for some real treats here.

Possible examples being: Do what you love, build a list, diversify, rinse and repeat, and more gems I imagine.

I've received some great tips over the years, and a lot of the times the person giving the tip didn't actually realize he was doing so. It was just an element of the conversation. I'd see it though, each time, and either file it away or run with it. The latest happened only a few days ago, actually.

Instead of giving you a marketing tip (WF is replete with them, after all), I'll give you one of the more fun tips I've received: "Never wear black pajamas at the mansion. Every guy wears black. Be different."

Don't try to BS your way through life.
There's nothing wrong with a hard days work.
Don't pretend you're somebody/something that you are not.
Your lies will eventually catch-up with you.
Hiding behind a computer screen does not make you invulnerable.
Don't be a schmuck and believe everything you read online.
There is nothing wrong with questioning something that does not feel/look right.

Put yourself in the buyer's shoes and find a way to give them what they want! I know it's the opposite of what Jennifer said, but it's good advice! You need to know what your buyers want, so you can sell it to them!

Well yes, of course you put yourself in the buyer's shoes. That was exactly my point. Let me rephrase:

We can sometimes get too wrapped up in creating a sales page or website around things WE like (colors, copy, images, etc.) instead of creating them around what the BUYER likes.

If you hate loud colors and garish design but you're selling a product in the video game niche, you can't say "I'm not going to use showy graphics on my opt-in page because I don't like them."

You're not the one buying or opting in, so your opinion doesn't count. You should always understand who your market is and always be catering to their likes and needs and not your own.

Hopefully I explained a little better.

Funny you ask, I don't think there's any one piece of marketing advice that's really changed how I do things.

In terms of overall growth and personal development, that would be a different story though.

Sell into demand. You can waste a lot of time and money trying to build demand for your product, or service, or web site. Get in tune with your market, find out what they want, then sell it to them.

The best advice you've ever received is . . . find out what people want and sell it to them . . ?

        Thank you for sharing, Steve.

The best marketing tip I have received is to build a list and maintain a healthy relationship with your subscribers. I always try to solve people's problem rather then promoting only offers.
