Looking for a "Legitimate" IM Coach / Mentor

Sorry for the long post...

I just quit a $200,000 a year job as the COO of a real estate coaching company, so I've been making a significant income for a number of years. (I've been a brick-and-mortar businessman for 30+ years, having owned most of those business, so I'm not a newbie to entrepreneurship, running business or making decent money.)

But I'm tired of the corporate grind and believe Internet marketing has even more potential than my career as a CEO or COO. Now, I find myself at a crossroads whether to pull the trigger and move in that direction, or continue on a corporate path similar to the one I've been on for the past 30 years.

In my opinion, the key to making such a switch, is finding the right coach or mentor to help me get started. However (and no offense to anyone here), there are so many flaky Internet marketers (and so-called IM "experts") out there that it's hard to figure out which ones are legitimate. I'm willing to invest in my future, but want to avoid the BS. And I'm looking more for a "human being" that is willing to help me get started, than a series of training videos, no matter how good they are.

Who does the Warrior Community recommend for such a mentorship and why? And what has your personal experience been in working with them?

Thanks!

- Brent

Be careful looking for a mentor, here. I would only talk to very established members that have been in the game for a long time. Do some background research on whoever decides to reach out and "help" you before handing over the dough.

Since you stated you have money (or had), a lot of people are going to come out of the woodwork with PMs and "add me on Skype" comments. Just proceed with caution.

I would agree on many aspects of that.

Although having a coach or mentor can work very well (as it has for me)...

Doing research and going with your gut is an important part of picking the right person.

    My advice:

Decide what you want to do. Find the best at the job, who also coaches it.

Internet marketing is such a broad field. And your entry in it will be dictated by a plethor of factors: time, experience, abilities, interests, finances, and so forth. One entrant may be suited to carving out an income on Second Life; another, product creation; the next guy, eCommerce.

No coach is a master of all online business models. A high-flyer like yourself wants to keep flying high. My advice: decide on the best route for you and find the coach who is, without question, the authority in that field. You'll pay more for his or her help, but it'll be worth it.

    Hello Brentg22,

I have come across two highly recommended coaches: Dean Holland of Internet Profits Ltd and his (Dean's) coach who gave him the start he needed some years ago, (not quite sure if I have the right name of Dean's coach).

I have personally gone into a joint venture partnership with Dean Holland since July 2014 and at this stage I have a very clear and practical online marketing strategy to achieve my financial goals.

I have had consistent results over the months since I started and have developed a much better understanding of what it takes to earn profits online.

As mentioned above there are so many options with IM. I first thought I would be interested in providing SEO services to companies. Then I realized I would have to go find the customers, not so fun for me

The a successful IMHO mentioned to me he was going to start transitioning to affiliate type IM vs SEO. Since this guy had been successful, and still is with SEO, his comment made my ears perk up.

I started looking here on WF for a affiliate type mentor and after considering several mentors I selected Rob Rider's WSO. Not sure if I can put a link here due to forum rules. But if you do a search on WF for Rob Rider you will come across his coaching program called VIP membership let a super affiliate ... I signed up about 2 weeks ago and have a chance to look at the training area, just super. Layed out very nice. Easy to read and easy to listen to. Worth looking at for sure.

I would stay working until you can match what you make online. Find a coach and try to work with them 5pm or later so you can do both. 200k a year job is hard to give but but take it from someone making more than that online its nice to work at home and not be in corporate.

Wow! Quitting a $200,000 a year job? It is going to take you a time to fully undestand the
Internet Marketing game. I would suggest you stay in your job and learn in your spare time
the basics and get your feet wet before quitting your full time job.
There are several high quality IM mentors out there like Anik Signal. He was the one who
got me started in the game. Just check out and like my facebook page to learn more.

  • Finding a mentor is not just about the successful ones who put out their services to everyone. It can also be someone whos just been in the game longer and can help get you started with anything. Most of the big time "gurus" do not want to help people just starting out and/or charge several thousands for their coaching.

I think I would start something on the side and start learning the ropes before I even contemplated jumping ship.

As far as coaching, I would also first have an idea what I want to do, how I want to do it, and who is my intended market.

For example, you'll get people here recommending their friends, partners, coaches, etc. without knowing one bit about YOU and whether it's a good fit.

An Amazon whiz may not be helpful if you despise affiliate marketing but want to create your own products. A coach that only knows solo ads may not be helpful if your initial idea of marketing is advertising on big sites like Fox News.

And my last point is that a coach's success has nothing to do with your success. If I make $1,000 a day that has no bearing on whether you can or will. In IM there is a warped view of coaching. For example, who advises the president of the US? Only people that have been president? Who advises Fortune 100 CEOs - only former Fortune 100 CEOs?

Yet in this market, people believe you have got to be raking in the bucks to help someone else - even though income claims are often falsified and are 100% not verifiable. This forum, recently outlawed income claims, for this reason, in the WSO section. Too many lies, too much hype, too many claims of success when there was none.

Teaching, even 1-1 and called coaching, is much different than real coaching in my opinion.

Sure they can, it's called a review circle. People get into review groups and all leave reviews for each other so it looks like their product has a lot of traction. It's unfortunate, but it happens.

Lots of ways to deceive on the internet.

Background checking the person is the only way to know for sure.

An Internet Entrepreneur is not the same as a brick and mortar entrepreneur. Sure there are some similarities like getting paid for your results and being responsible for your 'own' income.

But there is still a big learning curve.

I wouldn't personally try to make the switch from traditional business income to online income unless I had:

    1- A hugh savings

    OR

2- An ongoing income to leverage

A good mentor doesn't have to be the best of the best. That type of mentor usually is far too busy to teach a new person and if they are, they can charge up to $500 (or more) per hour.

In the end, your success will be determined by you as to how far you are willing to go to get what you want.

A good mentor can only guide you along in the right direction but only you are responsible for your success.

The first step is making a commitment that you want to make this work no matter what. This is a real business and people are making real money in it. However it takes time to understand it, and a lot of trial and error. Find somebody that can walk you through step by step and show you the way. Try not to get distracted by shiny objects and stick to a plan of action. Remember, you are going to fail along the way, and you will make a lot of mistakes, however if you get caught up learning more then taking action you will quickly find yourself a cynical thinker and wonder why you are not getting anywhere. Many people have created success online and it is possible, but you cannot kind of want it, you gotta really want it! Make a commitment that you will never give up no matter what!

    Hi there!

My advice is that to start by yourself first, get the basics up and running then check what's missing from your arsenal.

At the first stages, any expert coach can't help you much apart from teaching you the basics that are available all over the net.

You might start needing a trustworthy coach when you start having specific questions that require expert advice.

As mentioned by other marketers on here, be careful when selecting your coach and do a thorough background check before hiring anyone.

I wish you all the best!
