Niche / Blogging vs Online Businesses $$

I would just like to know your honest opinons on Niche and affiliate marketing.
I've had John Chows blogging course for a while now but haven't had time to delve deep into it.

For the past 2 years I've been kind of obsessed and determined to make it online and thats where I want my future and income to be coming from.

Since then - I've kind of gone the direction of creating an online business directory for my community, and then after plan on starting an ecommerce store. At first I was going to start blogging/niche marketing but have some reasons to believe it is too competitive and hard to make a passive comfortable income with it, and starting online businesses like directories, stores, forums, etc are easier to do this?

What are your views on this?

(If you could also maybe state the difference between the types of Internet marketing money making "markets" eg niche, affiliate marketing, ppc, blogging and all the rest, with definitions to explain the exact fine line. I know it mostly but to just hear it from the horses mouth if you know what im saying.

Thanks!

I am in the buy paid traffic and build email lists business. This works out very well and I am full time online. Niche blogging works but takes too long and its hard to get rolling.

This depends on how you go about niche blogging. Outsourcing helps speed things up and if you don't just rely on SEO and focus on paid ads, you can speed things up.

How do you get paid traffic? Is it affordable and hows the ROI?
Do you sell your own products or?
How long has it taken you to earn from it?

Not sure why directories, stores, forums, etc would necessarily be easier. Either way, just put the work into it and your chances of success will be greater.

Also, don't let too much competition discourage you. Where I live, there are tons of restaurants and bars but that doesn't keep new ones from opening and being successful.

I need clear something up for you. Niche blogging is one form of an online business model. It's actually the most common one. Niche blogging is used in conjunction with affiliate marketing (how we are able to get paid). A niche is a people who are looking to solve a particular problem and who are also willing to pay for a solution (business 101 - literally). A niche blog is a blog that focuses on a particular theme like dating, weight loss, make money, fashion, etc.

We niche bloggers get paid by signing up to affiliate networks (like Clickbank) and promoting products on our blogs within our particular niches. These blogs most often contain product reviews and articles about stuff going on in our respective niches. For instance, I'm in the "dating/relationship" and "make money online" niches. If someone comes across one of my blogs via the search engine because of a particular review (or article) that they were looking for that I happen to write and decided to purchase the product after reading said review, I'd earn a commission.

Forum marketing and PPC (pay-per-click) -- a form of paid advertising are just two ways someone might choose to drive traffic to their site. Also, when you think of niche blogging, it's not the business model that's competitive, it's the niche you choose to go into. That shouldn't scare you, though. All profitable niches are going to have competition because there's money to be made and more products to promote. Think of it like this. It's easier to get a small piece of a large pie than to get a small piece of something that hardly exist.

Oh, a lot of people that I know that have stores also tend to use Youtube and have larger social followings, so all they have to do is put a link in the description box, and their followers will buy from them. They don't work so well for like search engine purposes.

    Hi DN,

Blogging/niche marketing is the way to go for you! Why? Because you want to do it. So, what happens is, when you really want to do something online and you follow your passion, these things called: mental blocks or limiting beliefs.....they pop up in your mind. Like the idea you shared, that this niche is too competitive. It isn't. No way. That's an idea in your mind. Kick it out of your mind, now, and you'll move forward, and work that niche you always wanted to work. Go in the direction of your fears, and the fears die. Then when dead, you'll be free to pursue your passion and this is where the magic and the fun and yep, that John Chow money - or your freedom, or whatever you want - that's where this is.

Onward and upward, and keep up the great work.

    Signing off from Bali.
