How to know copyright status of something

Hi.
How do i know the copyright status of something? For example, if Dragon Ball Z is 30 years old, can i use DBZ to make videos? If it is created 30 years ago but still being worked on, I guess it is still under copyright laws. But If there is no more work on it since 20 or 30 years ago? There is a website to know?

You are actually talking about Trademark as well as Copyright.

Copyright applies to written works, not products or brands.

The Dragon Ball Z characters and movies would be both copyright (for the scripts/characters) and trademarked (for the brand name/toys/games).

Copyright lasts a lot longer than 30 years. It might as well be forever for current works.

General Rule of Thumb: if it was made before 1923 copyright has expired. If it was made after 1922 assume it is copyrighted.

Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 so you can assume the govt will continue to extend copyright protections for anything created after 1927.

Copyright is for work being done by us such as content, images, videos, arts and other similar things. Trademarks is for brand, product that is being manufactured by a company or done by them. Both Copyright and Trademark works as long as the company exists and they can sieze the property at any time, since they own the intellectual properties.
