It's always a good idea to look at what other successful blogs in your space are doing and how you can do it better. Some ideas include going into more detail, more screenshots/photos, out promoting them, etc.

I currently have a review type blog as a side project of mine in a very specific niche. Best advice I can give you is be genuine and supply helpful content. Don't just rush out 10 reviews a week. Spend a whole week on one post, making it the best post you can manage. Submit it to a few social media sites and if people like it, word will spread.

Thank you for all your inputs. I was actually gearing towards "how-to's and tutorials" but I'm afraid that I'm not credible enough and I'm not really an expert at anything. I know a lot of consumers (including me) who relies with reviews and product comparisons before buying certain merchandise. According to surveys (I did my own research also) this type of blog attracts a lot of readers which means more advertising offers LOL. I see different kinds of methods on how to do reviews, like for example this service review and this product review. Are they boring to read? Do you think they were able to meet what the readers are looking for in a product review?

Hello, as a consumer I rely a lot on product reviews and I think I became addicted to it because before buying any product it's a MUST for me to check out 2-3 reviews before deciding whether to buy it or not. I value an honest review more than a fancy blog design but with unreliable content. Including customer's testimonials is a good idea too.

First of all analyze your blog posts. Check which posts are still getting traffic enough though you were not writing any content. Find the article that is contributing to the highest bounce rate. Redesign your blog if needed and get a brand new logo. Choose a great webhost that will help speed up your site. Rewrite/update some of your old article that is not receiving traffic. Research for long tail keywords using Adwords keyword planner tool (make sure you filter them).

Maintain keyword consistency on all your new articles. If you are focussing more on reviewing products or services, target the right keyword.Give value to your readers and write an extensive review "one of a kind" that has all the required information.Use custom graphic banners and call to action buttons in your article. Use alteast 2-3 so that your users have a chance to click on the links.

Be active on twitter and promote your articles using justretweet service. Try to make more guest posts on different high authority blogs. Get a link back using the right keyword.

It will take a lot of time but if you work consistently, you will see great results.

Google analytics is a great way to discern what posts/pages your visitors are looking at. Focus on these posts/pages first. Add more content, optimize that content for the keyword, and add some long-tail supporting keywords in the text copy. Then, start building new posts and new content for support keywords. Over time, you can build up the focus and authority of your site naturally and safe.

Review products you have used AND feel have helped you immensely. This authenticity - of having benefitted from the product - helps your reviews pop. As for other tips I'd say go with long form content. Pillar style posts work well for me on a blogging tips blog - with a travel bend - but I'd garner long form works well on most blogs. If people want reviews, and endorsements, they want resources, a thorough, in depth read that's well worth their time, because they want to have enough valid, helpful information to make an educated decision on the product.

If you are going to focus on product reviews this year, just know that there is huge competition out there for it.

I see a lot of products, especially on Clickbank, that sells info on how to make "lots of money reviewing products". 5 years ago, there was not a lot of competition for product review websites but now a days the competition is fierce.

So I don't recommend you waste your time with this.

Whether you want to focus on reviews or tutorials, the important thing to keep in mind is you should definitely focus on quality information. There are a on of review blogs out there that are only in for the money, they don't really offer anything of value, so if you manage to go the extra length and offer full reviews, with pictures, with pros and cons, with details, as many as you can offer, I think you could be successful at running your blog.

I think it's best to focus on just a couple of products really on you blog that you review, and provide high quality information instead. One product promotion can bring in a lot more income than dozens if you do'nt offer anything of value on your blog and just hope for affiliate clicks to make sales.

Here's a good plan:
-> Create an amazing post one day (2000+ words) with tons of information that your readers will apprecate
-> Spend the next day promoting that post

This in combination with a couple of genuine reviews will bring the best results. Too many bloggers just focus on writing and don't promote their posts so make sure it's 50/50.

I know this thread is not new, but I think there are a lot of 'abandoned' blogs out there, so it's worth discussing. Although when creating a new post it may seem like a year ago was way too far back, in 3 years people will hardly notice, if you see what I mean. In fact if your content is good enough, they may not even see the dates.

A few thoughts:

• You can strip the dates out of your posts and it will be timeless.
• You can make a post explaining why the delay, or simply say you were revamping
• You can back-date a couple posts to cover the gap
• The old posts are useful for SEO if nothing else

I switched one long-time blog to a Vlog 3 years ago. Now I am going to change the format again -- instead of focusing only on business, i am going to make it more personal. I will do an introductory post explaining that, then off we go. So its history is written niche blog, very focused Vlog, written niche/personal stories/cooking/family blog.

Everyone is doing reviews these days. The only success stories I see are the people actively researching their competitors and making their stuff a lot better/different, and by going really in-depth with the reviews.

What I hate seeing from review sites are nothing but fantastic reviews for every single product, trying to get an affiliate sale on every page.
