Simple mathematics...

Hi Warriors, I have a problem / question about affiliate marketing.

Now, I get it that if my landing page is a good one (if it presells good), I can expect conversions of about 1-2% from the hops made from that site.

And let's say the hop-through ratio is %20...

Doesn't this mean that for every 1000 visitor to my site, 200 will hop to the link and I will make an average 3 sales from those 200 hops?

And let's say the promoted product gives us $30 per sale... That means $90 per 1000 visitors.

The problem is, even getting 100 targeted visitors per day to a site isn't a really easy thing to do, and 100 visitors make you only $9 ?

I am having problems in determining how profitable being an affiliate is.. And from my viewpoint it looks kind of hard to make any real money from this.

Thanks for any advice you have...

    Hi Talinn,

It is definitely possible to make money from affiliate marketing. There are plenty of people on this forum who make a really good living.

It all comes down to finding your niche, and then finding the right angle to make it profitable for you.

    Cheers,

Well, if you at least manage to increase your hop ratio by quite a bit, and if you get better at "preselling", your conversions will sure rise! And if you find good products, it will convert better than 1-2%. AT LEAST if you send targeted traffic.

And you could always promote memberships that gives you a residual income, as well as build a list.

Other things you could do, is to offer bonuses, as this tends to increase conversions as well.

Well, I'm yet to sell ONE product after about 200 hops to a certain product I'm promoting, but anyway

I don't know what I am doing wrong.

If you get 200 hops without one single sale, the traffic isn't targeted. OR it can be because you are promoting a really high-ticket product that converts worse, but pays better.

You might not be the best at preselling as well. Could that be right?

Oh, that could be TOTALLY right

Well I'm promoting the Vince Delmonte program, so you're right about that too. Its price is $77.

Could you examine my review site and make some recommendations if I sent you the link?

I'm not from the US and can't get accepted into CPA programs...
Sure I'm not a copywriter, but I could always take a look

And btw, $77 isn't considered a high-ticket product. It's way higher than that. And I don't know which program that is. Just pass me the link :p

And I live in Norway, but can easily get accepted by lots of CPA companies. Maxbounty etc.

Take a look in the adsense etc. forum to find posts about this.

Now, high-paying CPA offers tend to be in highly competitive niches, but there is a reason for it Maybe start out with a few with a bit lower payout? But It's definitely a good idea.

@SurviveUnemployment - Good points. Now we're talking good money!
Just remember to stick with one first, make it successful, find out what you did right, rinse and repeat =)

I've send many, many, many hops to vince's site. Never made a single sale.
I have an old website (autoblog) that promotes Vince's products.

Someday I might change the product. Even though the site doesn't really presell, the traffic is at least targeted (bodybuilding is in the URL).

Just to let you know, that you're not the only one having problems with these products.

    Excellent question.

The solution is to do the following:
    - Sell higher priced stuff
    - Increase your conversion rate by only targeting movtivated people and have them opt in to your list
    - Pick a niche and keywords where there isn't a ton of competition.

Do higher priced stuff mean lesser conversions as well?

The product I'm promoting (the vince delmonte thing) is priced at $80, but so are most of his competitors.

    Never heard of the program.

But why not do CPA offers?

Lots have 30-40 payouts and convert at around 10% to even 20%.

Now do the math using those numbers.

It is not possible to make money with any affiliate programme. For this you have to choose such product that is very profitable now a days. Also the content of your site should bbe unique one that attracts the people and helps to upgrade your site in search engines.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[999221].message }}
  • It's also simple math that...

Now, I get it that if my landing page is a good one (if it presells good), I can expect conversions of about 1-2% from the hops made from that site.
If you can increase that to 3%-4% (which is totally within expectations if your traffic is halfway targeted) and

And let's say the hop-through ratio is %20...
If you can bump that up to 30% (which shouldn't be hard) and

You can drive 120 visitors to a page every day instead of 100, then based on that same $30 commission

every 10 days you will get 1200 impressions, 400 hops, and 12-16 sales for earnings of $360-$480 every ten days off that one page. If you have ten pages performing like that, you're making some decent money. A hundred pages performing like that, and you're rich.

Incremental improvements can lead to exponential earnings increases, you see. It seems to take a lot of time, though.
