Made a few sales. What next?

I have a website which offers tips for music teachers on how to find new students. I monetize it by building a list and then promoting an ebook.

I've made a few sales, but would like to know if you can offer any advice on how to scale up my business and if I can improve on anything in terms of split testing.

1) Sales

I've made 43 sales from 564 subscribers = 1 in 13 purchase my book
My book is priced at $27 and in my e-mail sequence I reduce the price to $17 after 10 days to encourage people to buy.

2) Opt Ins

I use an incentivized optin at the top of my blog offering a free report and have between 13-14% opt in rate

3) Traffic

I'm using Linkedin and Facebook groups linking to articles on my site. People seem to like my content, so I've tried some article syndication but it seems most sites want unique content.

Not had any luck with forums, but thinking about PPC. However, for this to be profitable I would probably need a squeeze page, and in my experience the quality of subscriber is worse than if they opt in via a blog.

Any thoughts on how to scale things up? Are my numbers ok so far?

Without knowing anything about the blog/content/niche, the numbers look pretty good to me. The only thing I'd be concerned about is how specific the niche is (how many music teachers are looking to attract new customers online?

The things I would look into are.. an upsell, either at the time of purchase and/or after the purchase. Possibly an exit popup to capture more leads and/or offer a one-time only discount. Then it's just about going where you're customers are. Forums, websites, etc, where music teachers hang out.. and see if they'll let you advertise there.

I would start with ppc ads on bing since its cheaper than google. Find some keywords that work and move to goolge. Remember to use tracking pixels so you know where the sales are coming from.

    I agree with Gambino.

Get some upsells started. Create a funnel separate the people that have bought from the rest of your list. Aweber and Getresponse have the ability to do this. Start a sequence to ask them to purchase your upsell.

Then create another sequence where you offer coaching that's where the big buck are made.

    Congrats on your success

Backend marketing is the immediate next step. If you only have 1 product to offer...ever... then you don't have a business. Create more products similar to the one you sold the 43 customers, and pitch them on that item.

    Then the next item...

    Then the next item...

    Then the next item...

    etc.

Selling to your current/existing customers is where the real money is at. If you do this, plus... reach a point in your business where you're breaking even on the frontend (initial sale).... you're in the profit zone my friend.

Randall's advice is very good and very true.

You can not rely on just new customers to earn you a measly $27 commission.

You should offer them more products to buy on the back end.

Here's another tip: If you can get your one time fee of $27 to become a monthly $27 product that your customers have to pay, this is the way to go too and will earn you more income in the future.

Thanks for the tips. Reassuring to know I'm on the right track. I've thought about coaching but I don't have the time right now to offer this service, so would prefer to sell some other products as an affiliate.

However, I'm finding it hard to think what else I could offer/recommend to my existing customers.

You're sales are converting like at 8% based on your subscribers and that is very good. Most people are lucky if they can get 8% open rates (on emails).

Why not scale up your marketing efforts on the front end by getting more traffic? If you do, don't go overboard. Because some people start making money and then start throwing too many dollars into Paid Ads before understanding enough about paid traffic.

      But what I mean is...

Why not scale up on your FREE Traffic?

Do more of what you are doing right now.

Then you could keep 'giving' value to your lists and then definitely sell more on the back end.

If you keep giving them value, they will feel good and keep buying from you.

People love to buy when they see value in (and from) you.

      Great job!

Yep, no rush to make more products when you can double the efforts for traffic right now. Besides, you will always need traffic whether you have one product or 10,000, right?

And since you are not sure what else to provide ...you do have two lists, buyers and regular subscribers ...ask them what they would like help with and slowly create it for them.

Your buyers might need or enjoy more specific knowledge than just the ebook, they can tell you.

All others on your list haven't bought your offer, but they do see value in you ...ask them specifically what would benefit them other than your standing offer.

In time you will have at least three products specific to your list, and slowly keep growing traffic, products and offers.

A side benefit of growing your business in this manner is that you become more 'in tune' with your prospects and customers ...you become better as a business, and more will come to you!

I read a book called the $100 Startup and in it is a man who developed software for music teachers to run their business. It said the software creator was doing incredible business, 6 figures /year from it.
I dont know the details but its in the book.
Maybe there's software you can sell or that can bring an idea to something else you can sell.

    I searched on google : https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q...music+teachers

    and found this http://www.musicteachershelper.com/
theres an affiliate program for it
    there might be others too.

    Don't forget affiliate programs like

    Sheet Music Plus

    https://affiliates.virtualsheetmusic.com/

What else do music teachers want that is lateral to finding students?

ie, how else can music teachers make money?

If a music teacher had their own personal blog to showcase their skills, would that help them?

If so, why not create a quick How To Make A Music Teacher WebSite That Attracts Future Students ebook? etc.etc.etc.

    Hope that helps!

Wow affiliate programs sound great and are helpful to your pocket so that is a side option but I would focus on expanding,,,,which is the Upsell...do you want fries with that? Sounds like you are doing a great job of it to by the way...well done. All business is about starting out and then growing....so now that you have these customers...all you have to do is think like one.....If I were buying your book and found success I would buy from you again...so now create another book that teachers you how to keep your KEEP your students coming back. You could also offer a video series that teaches them how to stay....people like video....you just have to think about if you were the customer what you would want next and give alot of value and add some extra stuff in there....you could then sell that for double or triple your first price.....then as you move on to the back end you could pull them all together and discount the lot ....you will evolve with it naturally but you must keep pushing forward.....Jennifer

I think with something like that I would want to find a way to set up a subscription style service.

Maybe offer to handle promotion and more for a set monthly price? Otherwise, yeah I'd wonder how many sales are really possible-

  • It's always great to be making sales my friend. But you can always do with a little more right!

The are some websites like adfly, pinterest, facebook and plenty of fish etc that could provide you with a good stream of traffic when you sign up as an advertiser and advertise on these websites.

The key is to get targeted buyer traffic. So get in contact with some list brokers with lists of buyers who have bought products in the last sixty to 90 days in the music niche. These are people will usaully be a great source of hot buyers that will instantly convert into more sales.

I hope this will help you with creating more sales.

Best wishes with your online business.

Definitely start adding more quality products that they can have an option of buying.

      Your results look pretty promising..

Look for cross selling into other products hat could help them and their music teaching careers .

Concentrate on getting to know your customers, email them everyday, ask questions and then you can concentrate your efforts on what products to create.
