Do I need a designer to help me?

Ok I have a close friend who is a website designer, as my schedule gets fuller and fuller I find it harder and harder to manage everything. I want to launch 40-50 highly targeted niche sites to start building revenue by the end of 2015, will he even be able to help me? I plan to offer him a certain percentage of the profit I make on each website. Should I ask for a meeting or is this not even worth it?

40 or 50 websites...yes you need help...just be careful in how much you pay a designer...in terms of profit share...because eventually once you start making a ton of cash...you will be over paying the designer for his work. (no offense to all you designers out there)

I would be interested in your plan for researching 40-50 niches, creating sites, and marketing them to profibility simultatiously. Then maintaining them.

You're better off, in my experience, with 1-3 high quality sites to focus your energy on.

If I were a the designer, I would be interested in knowing how many sites you've launched to profitability, how much the sites earned, how much these sites were projected to earn, and how you planned on making money on them.

I tend to agree with what Gambino said above. You may be better off concentrating your efforts on a smaller number of very high quality sites, with a good promotional strategy in place.

Re the designer, my preference is to always pay them for their work. I definitely do not want anyone eating into my profits!

All businesses need investments and web design is part of your investment.

40-50 websites? Please don't do it. Focus on 1 site for now. Once that starts making money (if it makes money) then you can create a second site, and so on.

How exactly do you plan to manage, create content, rank, make money, and operate so many sites? You even said that you have a full schedule. Seriously, do you even know the amount of work involved in maintaining and promoting a website?

Sorry, but it's a bad idea. Oh, and I doubt that your "web designer friend" will make 50 sites for you for free and pray that you put in the time and energy to generate a few bucks. Ask him for his rate and pay him for the cost of creating the site.

there are many designers that will not accept without any payment ..... take 1 website at a time and move forward only ....

40-50 highly target websites seems a bit too much. You will have to maintain a lot things include, SEO, Graphics(your friend may be able to help) or better hire a logo and graphic designer.

If you are certain about launching 40-50 websites. Setup a team (local or online) and start assigning work. All you can do is manage your team so that they work efficiently. It will cost you a lot of money but if it's a success then you will make loads of money

Choose a hosting provider that provides excellent service and support. My suggestion: A small orange as I use the same since a year and I have no complaints.

so why no start with 5 websites a year? You will be able to concentrate more. ( just my suggestion)

Regarding the profit sharing method or pay per job it's your choice.. most designers won't agree working for free and then wait for years to take profits but as he is your friend. that won't be a problem.

Maybe you should just use wordpress to build simple search engine friendly websites in less than 30 minutes...

Just get some premium theme to work with. You can outsource the whole process for less than $50 on fiverr.com..

Are you 100% sure you can deal with 50 sites? I'm sorry, but it seems impossible that one person can maintain, let alone advertise and market all of them at the same time. You'll definitely need a designer if you want them to look good, but you'll need a team to help you with future managing these sites. It's better to make up to 5 sites and focus primarily on them than to have 50 useless sites since no one can manage that much of work without loosing their minds.

I would definitely speak to your friend and see if he is willing to help. 40 - 50 websites is a lot and is something you would never manage to reach on your own alone. 50 sites does seem like a lot to manage though so maybe looking into getting more people on board as well if you are able to to help you would be a wise idea.

With that number of websites, it sure does sound like you will need assistance. You can also look into outsourcing to get things done cheaply.

As mentioned above... using the wordpress platform and installing attractive, responsive themes suitable for the niches would also be a good plan of action.

I know many designers and they assist based on a friendship level but they usually complain about companies approaching them and offering them percentages of profits instead of upfront payment. They dont seem to like that approach but as its your friend it may be accepted differently.

If this guy is your close friend, why don't you talk about your plans with him?
If he wasn't your friend, I am almost 100% sure he would not even consider your offer. A good web designer can't afford to waste time on 40-50 websites, without any real insurance that they will generate revenue!
If he's your friend, he might just help you out, although, the same principle applies here as well: it's 40-50 websites, and no real insurance you'll make any money with them.

Good post. Yeah, I would recommend getting a website designer unless you already have a good idea about code or designing an attractive website that people will want to visit over and over. This is what I did and got mine designed for under $50. You could probably make more with 1 quality site that is awesome verses 40-50 that are not very good. The other thing is the amount of time that it is going to take to add content to it, make YouTube videos about, share with social media, setup your autoresponder, etc in order to make money. I have been at this for over 4 months and recently saw an article that it takes 6-7 months in order for the search engines to really rank your domain higher from the age. Start with one and when you start making money, I would quickly start another one. It might take a few years to really see success but they can be huge in the end

Yes, you can take help from your friend. If he accept any commission based work. You can ask him for a meeting. Thanks

Highly unlikely for a designer to put in that much work for a commission that may never happen. I am not trying to discount your work ethic or the value of your niche ideas however, despite the excellent research you will require some experience and a quite a bit of work to properly monetize just one site and future proof it (as much as possible).

I would recommend building up some capital so you can pay for the web design as if you are successful as others have said earlier you will simply end up ridiculously over paying for your friends work (if he is even willing). Put your efforts into the sites one by one to gain experience and minimize your risk.

But if you are already somewhat experienced and want to make a big push, dont rush it, take the time to plan the implementation of your ideas (after doing the necessary keyword / competition research) and get help to manage the day to day of each site.

    Average,

In your post you said you need help managing everything given your busy schedule. Why would you want a web site designer to manage your sites? Designing is usually a one-and-done effort. You need someone that is great at driving traffic, customer service, and daily business execution . . . not a web site designer.

Building a stable full of niche sites was in vogue 5-7 years ago. The idea was to get 100 sites making a few bucks each day and you would have a full time income. In almost every case . . . the business model fell apart before the income arrived. Owners were so burned out and tired of trying to balance so many sites all at once and keep them fresh that they abandoned the plan for a more realistic approach. That's when the authority site wave took over . . . one web site with in-depth focus.

Given your lack of time . . . I would say there are many more efficient and less labor-intensive ways to make a full time living.

    Good luck,

    Steve
