Are "snack foods" a niche? How would you sell gourmet snacks, food gifts, fruit baskets, etc

So my sister got me a gift from Mrs Fields and it was really neat. I've been trying to find what niche I want to go into and I found that many of those companies like Mrs Fields, Fruit Bouquets, Harry and David etc. have an affiliate program.

I was thinking of food as a niche. But how could I sell it? Itd be hard to target I think, how do you run a campaign on Facebook for this? I dont know if you could. And how do you build a list of snack food buyers, since there is no NEED for snacks foods, like theres a need for headache or arthritis relief etc. Snack foods are just a pleasure thing.

The only way I could think of to sell it is
1. Make a blog
2. Buy the products Im selling
3. Make a YouTube video of me and a friend eating the food and talking about it on video.
4. Post the reviews to my blog with my affiliate links.
5. Hope to use that to build a community

What do you think of this? Am I missing something?
Is this a dead end niche since it doesn't solve an urgent problem?

    mrmax,

You're talking about food here. This is consumed on a daily basis and for most people 3 times a day plus snacks in between meals. It is a staple whether it is snack, gourmet or other. I think your immediate strategy would be to buy the products your selling and start locally.

Rather than just jumping in I would build the community first by doing a survey. You could target the area that you would want to work in by letting them know you will be opening soon and list items that you could make available to them. Have them select the items they like and try to get a feel for what frequency they might use the service (e.g. once a week, twice a week, etc...). You would need a convenient method to deliver goods to them and workout pricing to make it profitable.

If it is all feasible then do it, if not, forget it! You wouldn't need very many customers to make it worth wild but people will pay for food and especially convenience.

    Good Luck,
    Gary Miller
