Hi All,

This Post is a total EDIT from a previous BORING one I made Yesterday. I didn't want to start a new thread because the original boring post was a WASTE of post space.

There should be a shout of excitement going out from IMers Successful and not successful alike, however, mostly from those of us who don't have all the tools to write articles and to record interviews etc.

By now you probably figured out that this is about Google Voice WAIT don't click away, if you forget about it for placing and receiving phone calls, If you don't need another voice mail, and could care less about having a lifetime follow me phone #, even if you are worried that the big G is already too powerful and you don't want to be a part of the Google Herd, you need to know this.

Time and time again Warriors have asked, "How do I record an interview over the phone to create an IM product interviewing another IMer or another niche expert."

The answer usually involved skype, some sort of recording device from the electronics store, etc. etc. And many times with poor quality.

Forget those things. Recieve a Phone call and press 4 on your Key Pad. A nice ladies voice says "Record On" and everything is recorded.

What about quality. I've tested it and it is Recording Studio Quality. And I used 2 cell phones. So not only can you transcribe the interview but now you can sell a HIGH quality mp3 or other format recording.

Want to do voice overs for you site? Want to record your own eBooks? Want to record eBooks you have MRR for (with authors permission of course.) Again I repeat this is STUDIO quality.

I can not over emphasize that Google Voice is also a GREAT replacement for Dragon Naturally Speaking, however it's even BETTER because you can use it on the fly.

Call Google Voice from your cell phone from anywhere. If the muse strikes you while standing in line at the airport or in the store or anywhere you have an ahha moment, call GV and leave your self a voice mail. When you check your email there will be your 500 word article IN TEXT, ready to tweak and publish. By the way the recording will be there too!

It took me 3 minutes to "write" an article this way.

More to come.... Please add your Internet Marketing Uses to this thread.

I wouldn't call this a rant Let's call it a RAVE! <end of rave>

By the way, no one should worry that "now everyone" has a perfect recording studio for recording ebooks or transcripts or article writing. Most will not "get it," even if we blab it all over the net.

However, it's got to be coming soon. Right now we can use it to call other countries. I bet it's just a matter of time before it's all over the world.

Yep I signed up to the invite list for this a while ago, yesterday got my invite email telling me all the great things it can do, followed the link to find, "only available in the US" - what a tease and a bummer as already stated.

Hope it does come to other countries and I hope soon.

What do you think Google Voice is going to be?

        - a that's ok tool.
        - a great tool for everyone!
        - a huge bang in daily life in every country and in the way we use phones/web?

          Good Question,

I'm addressing it in the light of my OP as an IM tool and of course the majority of people on earth will never be in IM. (the majority of people do not even know what IM stands for and those few who think they know think it stands for Instant Message) As an IM tool it is FANTASTIC from the stand point of creating products, that is Interviews, audio eBooks and writing articles and customer support, and conference calling (I don't know how many can be on a call, I'll find out." Anyway just to be able to record 3 experts on a call and transcribe it is awesome. (yes i know this is already done all the time but remember this is free and the quality is great)

As far as general use goes the features are nice but not earth shattering. I do admit I change phone numbers like some people change their socks so the "one number for life" feature is nice to pass out to "special people". Every thing works great but voice mail, follow me and call screening, etc. are not new but very nice.

The best thing about it is it's free. The worse thing about it is the uneasy feeling that I'll get so hooked on it it will be a must have if they start charging.

Having said that I don't think they will ever charge for the basic services. They charge $10 each time you change your phone number, they will probably make millions on that alone. I think most people will want to have local numbers and will not use the "life time number" when they move.

Bottom line, I think this is a Great and Amazing tool for product/article creators and just a "nice" tool for everyone else. It seems like Google is now a "Phone Company" for the most part. I'd be just as excited about the extra tools if my phone company had them.

          George.

Thanks for your thoughts on this George, appreciated. Personally i expect Google Voice to become huge when it arrives to Europe.

So many people use Gmail + Google search engine at this moment... this is going to hit them right on the face, i think.

    OK Here is another one.

Google Voice has a "widget" you put on any of your websites. Anyone can click the widget, enter their phone number your phone rings their phone rings and you are connected, toll free. Your phone # is not revealed to the caller. Toll free calling for everyone inside a country. Low cost for outside the country calling. (I say inside a country and not just U.S. because Google says its going to other countries soon.)

        So true Fernando, and....

Can you vision this. A central website where you start a "local directory."

Set up Google voice for your offline client.

Put his/her widget on your "local directory." The Dr. The Dentist, The butcher, the baker and the candle stick maker.

Now when people come to your "local directory." they can direct connect to your customer. No expensive script, no tech knowledge necessary. Just a Google widget on your page."

Or how about this. Toll Free unlimited out going message. You want to let your potential customer hear a rather long recorded message. Forward Google Voice to your land line, where you have a 3 or more minute out going voice machine set up. Even though it's not an 800# it is still Toll Free.

Here is another one. Set up Google Voice for your offline customers and show them how to have "free long distance" calling right from their office or store." How much would that be worth. Yes I know they can do it themselves for free but how much would people pay to have you do this for them? We are talking off liners here who pay for our knowledge all the time.

George Wright P.S. While I'm thinking about it I'm going to add my Google Voice # to my friends and family on my cell phone. Now it's not even using minutes on my cell.

Nevermind about the invite, I got one. If I can I will hook other WF members up too.

Update: I got my Google Voice account but unfortunately don't have any invites. If you want an account bad enough you can go to eBay and get one for under $4.00.

Other cool thing is that it lets you enter you area code then a phrase and finds numbers with that phrase. My number ends in XXX-1SEO. Pretty cool.

      Hi Andy,

Yes that is a GREAT phone#.

      Could you address this concern?

I had thought about looking on eBay. I remember when gmail invites were for sell on ebay. A lot of people got in early with gmail because of that. However, and correct me if I'm wrong, my fear would be that since the Google Voice phone # is directly tied in with a current gmail account, an unscrupulous person could "sell" you the invite, wait, and later on simply go to the password recovery feature on gmail and hijack the name back from you.

When they set up the gmail account (the one the phone # is connected to) they had to give the answer to a secret question, favorite color, library card # etc. All they need to do is fill in the form, enter the answer to the question and take the account back along with phone #. This could be done tomorrow or 20 years from now.

Even if you change the "secret" question the gmail account is always connected to the name and alternate email of the original account holder and that information can be used to recover the account without the answer to the secret question.

I really hope I'm wrong. Maybe you could shed some light on the eBay thing.

      Thanks,
      George Wright

          Hi Andy,

I'm not overly concerned because in time anyone who wants one will have a Google Voice account. My slight concern is this.

(remember I'm talking about this without checking out the deal on eBay but I'm just thinking...)

If you "bought" a Google Voice invite from someone what you were actually buying is a gmail account with it's invite. If I'm wrong about this stop right here because my entire understanding of the process is wrong. Edit: Apparently I've had the false thought that google invites were only extended to google gmail accounts specifically and could only be used with the account the invite was sent to. Looks like I'm wrong while still being Wright. Disregard this post and my concerns in the other post. Sorry.

Anyway if what you bought was a gmail account with the invite, sometime in the future the original owner of that gmail account could take it back.

No worries, he probably won't, and even if he did you can get another one.

I'm really glad you got one and I'm not trying to throw a damper on it at all.

I'll go to eBay right now and get some edumacation on the subject.

George, I love your cell phone "friends and family" trick combined with your Google Voice number.

I have another "stupid cell phone trick" with Google Voice. For years I've been using a pre-paid cell service. I don't use my cell phone very much and this is the cheapest way of having the service. I pay ten cents a minute, and when I buy 300 minutes every 60 days, it carries forward all my old minutes and keeps the service going. So I'm paying $15 per month plus tax, and I have several thousand minutes in reserve.

Here's the catch and the trick. The service is good only in the U.S. It can't even be extended to Canada. But with Google Voice anything is possible. I just use my cell to call my GV number and tell GV to call Canada. Total cost: 11 cents a minute (one to GV, ten to my service). Or 13 cents a minute to the UK, or...

                    Steve,

                    That's Brilliant!

You can do the same thing with your home phone, remove all long distance and toll service from your home phone (I already have) add your home phone as an additional phone on Google Voice. Use Google Voice and you have free unlimited toll and long distant calling. For a few cents you can make out of the country calls. I dropped Long Distance years ago and haven't missed it one bit because our local 99 cent store sells calling cards for 99 minutes for 99 cents. Google voice is even better than a penny a minute. Free is good.

                    George

I'm in UK so not able to get the G voice thing.

However any pointers to using Dragon Naturally Speaking to "write" articles? Is it as easy as it sounds

                      GERONIMO....

                      thanks ed ;-)

    George!

Wow! hadn't heard about this until your post. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

As far as the invite thing ... if you are only using it for the transcription part, it wouldn't matter a whole lot if they took it back, so long as you got your $4.00 worth would it? Or will it only send transcriptions to the connected gmail account?

This is going to be great!

    George,

    thanks for bringing this up.

    Google Voice sounds awesome!

I guess I'm still a bit confused about
    how this "invite" situation works.

Why can't I just sign up for an account?

      Hi Emanuel,

It's by invitation only during the beta testing. All you have to do is go to Google and request an invite. It takes around a week or so to get one.

OK All, Here is another use.

You are familiar with Ether.com right? It's where you get paid by the minute to talk to people and Ether takes 15%. Well no more. Google Voice can be your own personal Ether.com and you keep all the money minus PayPal fees.

I haven't worked it all out yet but it will go something like this. People can only call you on your "dedicated" phone line when they prepay say, $15. Now, when they pay, PayPal takes them to your Google Voice widget where they are given a secret code. When your website connects them to your phone you hear the secret code first and only then do you answer and talk. Talk about what? Go to www.Ether.com and see what people are paying to talk about. Among other things, "life coaching," Tech support, dog training, Learning Spanish, etc etc.

George, this is a great idea. I got my number and didn't even think of this as a solution -- probably because I haven't had great "luck" with transcription software. Is the transcription really very good? Because if it's pretty good, then this is an awesome application.

And recording teleseminars or calls? Wow. Automatic transcriptions. I wonder how long a message we're allowed to leave.

      Hi Coach,

The transcription is nowhere near publishing ready. However it does get the article in a state where you can tweak it with word or open office. I would call it a rough, rough draft. I suggest you paste it into a notepad first then copy and paste from notepad to your .doc file. This is because you get all kind of strange formatting when you copy and paste directly from google to .doc.

It just really helps you capture those ideas that come and go all day. One idea can be turned into a whole article. What I did before is record as I go and then I have to listen to my recording and transcribe it. That is very time consuming. Now I get the rough transcription which I can work from without listening, stopping the recording, typing, listening, stopping etc. etc.

Again don't think of the transcript as something you would want to show anyone, however it is a great starting point. I "wrote" 4 500 word articles on offline marketing today while lying on my back with my eyes closed. This took about 10 or 15 minutes and 4 calls to myself. Then the tweaking took another half hour or so. Not that fast per se except for the fact that you can compose articles anywhere anytime without the need for pen and paper or light even. LOL I can work now in time slots that were formerly wasted, like rest time, riding in the car out eating, wait is this a good thing???? LOL

As far as recording actual conversations that seems to be without a time limit. As long as the conversation goes on the recorder is running. One thing about the recording of conversations. The recorder can only be started on an incoming call. You can't call someone and record that, they have to call you. Not a problem though if it's a pre arranged interview.

Oh I found out the conference call feature only allows 4 people at the present. What do you want to bet that Google has a premium service in the works that will allow more listeners.

You can record yourself reading an ebook or giving a speech etc. simply by calling your Google number from another phone, like your house phone. I have two cell phones so I can do this on the fly also. I said it above but it bears repeating the quality of the recording is very very good. Much better than many IM recordings I've heard. There is absolutely no back ground noise or humming of any kind, pure voice.

As everyone else who is interested in this, I too am still learning.

      My best,
      George Wright

Anyone worried about the privacy issues and how much info Google will have about you?

You put Google analytics on your sites and Google knows your entire business.

You use Gmail and Google knows all of your emails. They don't even delete email messages when you do.

You use the Google toolbar and Google knows every move you make on the web.

You install Google's desktop search and they know everything on your PC.

Now, they know what you talk about on the phone and are transcribing your phone calls and, no doubt in my mind, saving them in a big database. Not only that, they will know all of your phone contacts.

      Yes Kurt,

Very much a concern. If I were some big corporation or other crime syndicate, or had a "lot to lose," by such privacy issues I'd be shaking in my boots. With what I have I don't shake in my boots, however my lip does quiver once or twice a day.

What can we do? Honestly there is probably a key stroke capture program recording this post as I type it. (Hi keystroke owner whoever you are.)

Every piece of software I install has to ask permission from zone alarm to "register" so not only does the software company have access to my PC Zone Alarm know who is watching me and and probably everything they know. On and on.

I am sure glad I've never done anything wrong, I have no money and all of my friends and neighbors are innocent. (are you listening whoever? It's true.)

    Hi Again,

In a post above I said. "While I'm thinking about it I'm going to add my Google Voice # to my friends and family on my cell phone. Now it's not even using minutes on my cell."

My cell co. calls it friends and family, others call it different things, favorites etc.

The reason I did that was so that I could use one of my cells to call the other one and dictate articles and so I could record conversations for free without using cell minutes. However, it just dawned on me...

When I call Google voice and then place a call with it from my cell, the call uses NO MINUTES. FREE CELL PHONE calls???? Pay for basic service lowest minute package that allows free calls to friends and family and call via Google Voice. This is going to wind up as one of those "ethics" questions.

Darn it! You've released my secrets! I have been planning on doing interviews with Google voice ever since I learned about the feature.

My husband and I have since switched to the My Favs with Tmobile and give out our Google Voice numbers instead of our real numbers. I'm not sure if it's been said, but you can toggle the Caller ID in the google settings to show the caller or the google number. So it works!

Well, the day George posted this thread I went to eBay and picked up an invite for a couple bucks because I didn't know how long it would take to get an invite from Google.

The offer is still open, if anyone wants an invite PM me and it is yours.
