Just caught this great blog post via hacker news. I suspect it will seem very familiar to those of us who have been working online for a while:

Make Money Online: Documenting 10 Years of Failure

  • Oh my goodness, great read! I only have time to skim it at the moment but I'm going to return to it. In fact, I'm inspired by it. I've been through a lot throughout my decades long career. I've been hacked, scammed, confused, delighted ... It's been a wild ride for sure!
  • You were right. It hit home and I bet there are many others that can relate to his experience. Nice to know I'm not alone.
  • Too often, we hear about the self-made internet millionaire. The one who opens up his or her computer and looks at the thousands of dollars made the previous night while they slept. It makes the act of making money online seem easy and that anyone who can access the internet can make themselves a fortune overnight.

It is nice to see a real world example of someone who has had to work through the hardships and the ups and downs that trying to earn an income online will almost certainly being. Thanks for the link, it was a good read.

    • Had planned to browse through and read later but I couldn't stop. The half that has never been told.
  • Servers down lol.
  • I read that, very good article
  • Good article, I agree, but I wouldn't classify any of that as a failure. The guy made a ton of money with nearly every project he worked on. When things dried up, he moved on to the next thing and made even more money.

    Where's the failure?

    • The failure was obviously promoting an affiliate product for a network that doesn't pay you commissions
    • Maybe the takeaway could be not to chase fad methods of making money, but to build real businesses that can be sustainable no matter what kind of market changes occur - and they will occur.

  • I actually read the whole thing.
  • Awesome article --- thanks for sharing! I'm not nearly as eloquent as your friend, but our paths are very similar, with one difference --- he made money, and I didn't! No regrets, though! I spent a lot of time and money that I couldn't afford trying this or that opportunity, to no avail. Finally, one day recently, I came to realize that I wouldn't get anywhere without a mentor. One of the first things he recommended was to join Warrior Forum, and I'm glad I took his advice, as there are lots of people here who are so generous in sharing their knowledge and experience. Keep smiling!

    • Thanks for the share! This was a good read. Like most said, this guy hustled. When one thing stopped him, he moved passed that and found another way. That's the way you end up winning.
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • That was a good read indeed. I think many who have been online as long as he has will recognize one or a few things that they can totally relate to. I know I can relate to quite a few things he has gone through.. Red line is Google. 100k visitors, $100 revenue. I totally recognize that. The most insulting way to make money was / is Adsense in my humble opinion.
  • Such a good article. Thank you for this one
