What would you offer for your membership site?

I posted a similar thread recently on the content of a membership site.

What would you personally offer? What do people want to see in a membership site?

I know it's dependent on the topic so let's say online marketing as the industry to begin with!

When I was considering to upgrade to paid member in a membership site, I would expect to get 'something brilliant and work out well' which may give me good ideas to do well in IM or 'offering a wide range of intensive/insider training' which may save me time and effort to search on Google.

People like me prefer video trainings coming with PDF manual.

    Hmmmm membership site.

I don't know if you are a newbie or not in this internet marketing game or not. Most newbies want to create membership training sites and teach people how create big teams and organizations, etc. I'm not saying this is you. If this is you I would ask myself a few questions before creating a membership site...

WHY do I want to create a membership site? Is your WHY clear and well formed?

How many members do I have currently waiting for my site to be created?

How many people are on my current team?

How many people have your similar beliefs, ideas, story?

How big is my current audience?

    Hope this helps.

Oh the main thing in a membership site is are people getting their questions answered. If I join a membership site its because my questions get answered. My ideal membership site would evolve around a culture, a collective purpose, something bigger than me or you. This site would give me a sense of belonging..

Story: There was a stone mason working and he was asked if he liked his job. His reply was its hot its long hours I'm in the sun all day and this building may never be finished in my lifetime its just a job it pays the bills. 40 feet away another stone mason was asked the same question " do you like your job" he answered I love my job its hot its long hours I'm in the sun all day and this building may never be finished in my life time but I'm building a Cathedral. You see the stone mason who said he was building a cathedral bought into the big picture. His attitude was I love this job because I'm building something bigger than myself. Your members to your membership site have to feel like they are building a Cathedral.

I would say a weekly webinar or hangout with a newsletter (not email, more like a small magazine for members only). And maybe an additional podcast.

they are all great sites but very complicated to navagiate, members get discouraged and leave after your trial period. that is what happened to me. list modules no more tha 5-10minutes long but keep it simple

Another possible product to offer in membership site is offering a free trial (lets say for 14 days) of a software. The software has to be very high quality that will make users fall in love with it even they use it for the first time. After the trial period, if they (members) want to continue to use the software, then they will have to upgrade to paid member.

This is something that'll be included in the membership section, creates a more personal relationship with the audience.

The membership concept of my business won't be released any time soon since I'll need some more experience, money and ideas to really make it work!

    Practical, timely, usable information.

In my case I sold products into a niche for nearly 3-years before I was pulled into a membership site model.

At that point in time it was VERY obvious what the market wanted - and so the decision was more do I want to operate a membership site or not.

Eventually, there was such a groundswell from my ebook and coaching customers that it just made too much sense.

I would caution anyone from jumping into a membership site model until you have developed a rapport and ideally some early business around fixed products with your marketplace.
