Words of Wisdom for those starting out in IM.

I have been trying to earn an income on line for around nine years or so. I have tried many different things and have experienced some success but nothing extraordinary.

Here is what I have finally figured out after all these years:

Just because someone else is making money doing something doesn't mean you will.

I consider myself a relatively intelligent person but that doesn't mean I am going to make a living as an affiliate marketer because PPC may not be something for me.

A lot of marketers out there are making money with certain methods:

PPC/Affiliate Marketing
Site Flipping
Content Creation
Services (Web hosting, programming, design)

What you need to do is find out which one is right for you and go with it. The key is to focus and get good at one of these methods. Once you do that you will find that some of the skills you learn will crossover to other areas. For example, say you get really good at creating and promoting your products with PPC. You will have learned the ropes with PPC and have a better chance at being successful promoting affiliate offers through pay per click.

Other example is site flipping. If this is your method of choice you will probably need to learn about SEO because getting good search engine traffic to your site will allow you to sell it for more. You would then be able to have multiple streams of income by flipping sites and providing SEO services.

Just remember, focus and never give up and you will be raking in the cash selling your own WSO.

    Hello,
That is great advice for many people that they will save years of time with.
I found out what I am good at after many years of trying many different niches as well.
I am a people person and I am able to drag out information from a customer
that they would not normally tell anyone else,I make a living from talking to
customers and just give them what they want.

    Something new soon.

I was in the same boat as you. After trying for several years I am finally settling down and focusing and it is already paying off.

I couldn't agree more. I have been attempting to start an internet marketing business for quite a few years now. I buy into the latest 'system' and blame myself when it doesn't work as advertised. I then flit onto the next new system.

I don't actually blame the 'system', well not often anyway. It sometimes involves a method of working that I don't enjoy, such as creating You Tube videos or prentending to be someone else when taking part in forums. Unfortunately you normally only find this out after you have paid for the system.

I say I don't blame the system because I can see some value in nearly everything I've ever purchased in the past, and I don't usually doubt the sellers claims that he is making money from it.

However I now recognise that am not the same as the seller, and what works for him may not work for me. He may enjoy participating in forums all day long and leaving his signature all over the place, I don't (apart from this forum of course, bet even then I don't have a signature). He may not mind participating in slightly dubious or borderline ethical activities, I don't.

Now I am a little wiser I tend to think for myself more, and have moved away from the latest new systems to concentrate on more traditional and tested methods, and this forum has proved invaluable in acheiving that. The advice freely available on here is second to none.

I agree with you that focus and persistance are the keys to success.

A mantra that no matter how many times I hear it still rings true. Running towards every 'Great New Thing' doesn't work. Do something, do something good and go on from there.
